Public Health – Reusable Design The knowledge acquired in public health projects is not always shared across multiple agencies
Documenting QI in Public Health • Narrative descriptions • “Storyboards” • Reports • Stand-alone documents • Posted on the web, at sites sponsored by funding agency
Documenting QI in Public Health - Example • Typical Storyboard for QI • Useful if you read the entire entry • Reports findings • HOWEVER: Alone, this reporting strategy is not providing optimal value to the PH community • No clear way to share what is learned across agencies
RWJF and PH Quality Improvement • RWJF supports QI efforts in PH • Identified the problem of information “slippage” • Developed a prototype information exchange
Project Vision • Demystify QI • Access to QI knowledge • Access to QI experts • New connections with peers • Guidance in developing QI strategy • Support for accreditation
Project Plan – Engage the Community • User Group • Expert Panel • Advisory Panel • Social Media • Outreach for submissions
Project Plan – Design • Functional requirements based on prototype and external group feedback (UCD) • Entirely open-source • Oriented to optimal search • Dynamic tagging • Connections and communication with peers
Project Plan – Submissions • 50 to launch with the site • Data collection template design is based on current research and grey literature • Approximately 1 new submission per week for 18 months • Community outreach through PH special interest organizations, conferences, and social media • Each submission reviewed by EP member
Project Plan – Social Media • Invite public health leaders to use social media • Messages, comments, and “Like” features on site • Discussions moderated by EP members • Reader-to-Leader Framework • Tweet-ups at conferences
Project Plan – Sustainability • Convene a Sustainability plan Working Group • Elicit stakeholder feedback • Document and execute sustainability efforts
Project Plan – Evaluation • Develop framework for evaluation • Monitor usage statistics • User engagement and satisfaction • Collaboration and knowledge exchange among PH practitioners • Impact on QI adoption and implementation
PHQIX will: • Bring in submissions from the PH community • Provide searchable access to QI submissions • Serve as a communication hub for QI work in PH • Educate PH practitioners about QI • Allow the reuse of QI knowledge
