  1. What can be confusing for novices taking Ballroom Dancing Classes is deciding on which type to get started in. This article explains the differences between International Latin Ballroom Dancing and other styles like American Rhythm, American Smooth or International Standard and also the way to select the style is that right for you. There are two main styles danced in the usa. From the Ballroom social dance scene, American fashion is danced at social ballroom parties. There are some smaller societal groups that dancing Global style but that's rare. Social ballroom dance is mainly dance in the US. The remainder of the world don't dancing Ballroom socially as we do here, they train at International Style and compete or take their decoration examinations. I'd really like to hear from you in the event you have examples where social ballroom dancing is happening out of America - what I mean by social is authentic leading and following, men and women turning up at a dance party and dance with each other and not couples dance a routine together. American style can be danced in competitions, but just in the united states. American style is also only taught in Ballroom dancing classes or private dance lessons only in the usa. Here is the style enjoyed in competitions all over the globe such as the US. International Latin Ballroom Dancing is Composed of the next dances - Rumba, Cha-Cha, Samba, Paso Doble and Jive. The International Latin technique is different from the Cuban Motion for Rumba and Cha-Cha. International Latin is danced onto a right leg ie. Every thing for Rumba and Cha-Cha is danced to some right leg with weight move entirely over the leg. American Cuban Motion is about a bent leg ie. Every step for Rumba and Cha-Cha is danced with a bent leg or flexed knee, the weight move is postponed until after the beat usually about the'&' counts. International Rumba time is danced together with the Slow on the 4-1 counts along with a slower rate than American Rumba which is danced using the Slow on the 1-2 counts. The method for Samba is exactly the exact same for both International and American styles. The International Standard method is Just like American Smooth. The International Standard figures are primarily in closed position and since it's not appreciated socially, utilizes a body contact closed position grip. Amercian Smooth has many figures that are in open positions and since it's appreciated socially, the grip can vary from body contact to 3-8 inches apart between a couple. There Seems to be a discrepancy in the timing of those Slow counts between Standard and Smooth. Back in Standard, the Slow count is danced on count 2. In Smooth - the Slow is danced on count 1. I was told by Ron Montez (my old mentor and well-known judge and ballroom TV server ) this is sometimes taught as beginner time consuming (Bronze). In my observation and interviews with many other Smooth instructors, this is due to lack of excellent technique instruction of their part. Many are instructing Smooth Silver

  2. and Gold amounts (complex ) and still dancing the Slow on count 1. I have needed to fix the time of many of my advanced students and this was a tricky process for them. It is easier with novices as I teach them of the suitable timing from the beginning. American Rhythm is made up of the next dances - Rumba, Cha-Cha, Bolero, East Coast Swing and Mambo. These five dances would be the core competition dances. The other dances are Merengue, West Coast Swing, Samba and Salsa. Rumba, Cha-Cha, Mambo, Merengue and Salsa uses the identical technique - American Cuban movement. East Coast Swing utilises Swing Jump activity, Samba strategy is the same as International Samba. Bolero is particular to American style - utilising cuban motion and fall and rise. American Smooth is made up of the next dances - Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango and Viennese Waltz. The method is exactly the same as International Standard however enjoyed a great deal in open places. There's a current new category called Nightclub dances which is composed of both Nightclub Two-Step, Hustle, Lindy Hop, Salsa and Argentine Tango. Each of those Ballroom Dancing styles has a syllabus using 10-15 figures each for Bronze (novice ), Silver (intermediate) and Gold (complex ) levels. Learning the syllabus figures is similar to studying the abc's of a new terminology. You are going to learn important ballroom dance components and ballroom dance steps which are then collect into figures. Just like using the bible to create a word. Then when you replicate the figures in a specific sequence, you've got choreography - like stringing words together to form sentences, into paragraphs into a song, book or poem. There are numerous unique syllabuses out there - DVIDA, NDCA, ISTD, Arthur Murray, Fred Astaire etc and for every, many alterations. Don't let the many differences worry you. I have discovered that my focus on studying the dancing elements well instead of simply ballroom dance steps means that I can adapt readily to almost any syllabus. It's only a variance or a resequencing of something I already understand. I teach ballroom dance elements to my beginners and I find they can easily adapt and adapt much faster compared to other dance students who just memorised amounts and ballroom dance steps but did not understand that the ballroom dance elements that made up the figures. You do not know what the words mean and therefore you cannot use it to make another tune, use keywords in conversation or even produce your own words. That is the reason my novice students can dance 4 unique dances in 1-2 weeks and 8 different dances in 3-6 weeks. It is generally easier for a total beginner to get started with the American style dances. This is because it's more forgiving from a movement and technique standpoint. Global style demands a specific proficiency in coordination to begin with. You also ought to be clear in your goals.... Should you wish to social dance, then go outside and have fun and meet other dancers, start with the American fashion. Global style dancers do not social dance. In the event you wish to compete or do shows or eventually turn pro, begin with International style. You may even begin with American fashion should you want to compete just in the US. If you wish to seem great, the technique training in International design is greatest. That is why I consistently stood as a social boss... I spent in good technique instruction in International fashion. The term Latin Ballroom dance is rather broad and may encompass either the International Latin Rumba- Cha-Cha, Samba, Paso Doble or Jive or even American Rhythm dances - Rumba, Cha-Cha, Mambo, Salsa, Bolero, Merengue, Samba or East Coast Swing. For anyone learning how to ballroom dancing, I don't recommend only learning a single dancing into your Ballroom Dancing classes or private dance lessons. There are so many cross-training advantages from learning
