  1. Welcome to Greenfield Junior High!Parent Orientation 2014-2015We are an A+ School of Excellence

  2. Your Administration Mr. Brian Yee, Principal Ms. Katey McPherson, Assistant Principal

  3. GrizzlyS.T.R.O.N.G. • Staff and students are GrizzlyS.T.R.O.N.G. • S is for Support • T is for Trust • R is for Respect • O is for Organized • N is for Never Give Up • G is for Genuine

  4. Some common concerns are: • How will my child find his or her classes? • Will they have enough time to eat their lunch? • How much homework will they have? • What the heck is the PRIDE Program? • How does student drop-off and pick-up work?

  5. Basic Information • Regular Hours: 8:03 AM – 3:10 PM • First bell at 7:58 AM • Our school website has a calendar of events • Wednesdays: On most Wednesdays there will be a one hour early release (2:10 instead of 3:10) • Half-days: Usually before school breaks or grading days. • Establish an email account with Infinite Campus (IC) to receive emails from teachers and office.

  6. How will my child find his or her classes? • Students have 4 minutes to get from one class to the next. You have enough time to quickly say hello to friends, use the restroom or get a drink of water. • This is more than enough time, provided you are not wasting it. ***The end-of-class bell will ring. The teacher will dismiss you. You now have (4) minutes. ***The tardy bell rings and class begins (you should be in your seat when the bell rings…NOT running, jumping or sliding through the door 

  7. Will they have enough time to eat their lunch? • YES! Follow the rules in the cafeteria to ensure the lines move quickly and efficiently. • Students MUST have their school ID or PRIDE book (or cash) to purchase lunch. **Do not give your ID # to other students • Students have (30) minutes…use it wisely. • Can sit inside or outside to eat. • The lines will be long the first few days…but don’t worry, everyone will eat! • We have three lines inside and two ala carte lines outside. • Students will have a variety of options: • Sandwiches & Salads • Asian, Italian and Mexican options • GPS website has school menu • Some lines are longer than others, you may have to use a shorter line in order to have more time to eat.

  8. How much homework will they have? • Can range from 30 minutes to 2 hours a day. • Typically teachers will give class time to do work, what they do not finish is then “homework”. Encourage your child to use the time in class to start on homework. • Provide your child with a distraction free space to do homework. • Look at their PRIDE book to see what their assignments are.

  9. Grades (Infinite Campus) • The district utilizes Infinite Campus for all grading. • Grades can be checked online by parents/guardians anywhere/anytime (24/7). • iPhone/Droid “app” available. • Check your student’s grades frequently, as this removes any chance of “surprises” at the end of the quarter/semester. • ***Setup/Login information available via the Greenfield Junior High website (“For Parent” tab)

  10. What the heck is the PRIDE Program? • Personal Responsibility In Daily Efforts • Every student receives a PRIDE Book. • It is a personal planner, students are expected to: • Write in their PRIDE Book daily what occurs in class AND if they have homework for each class. • If students are on Time, have all of their Materials for that class and have their Homework to turn in, they receive a stamp for that class period. If they receive all of their stamps for the day, they are dismissed at 3:10 pm. • If they do not have one of the above, they are assigned 9th hour for that day. They attend 9th hour from 3:10 pm – 3:40 pm

  11. PRIDE… continued • Provides opportunity for students to learn organizational skills and personal responsibility. • We encourage parents to look at their child’s PRIDE Book Nightly. See what they did in class and if they have homework. Be consistent and do it daily. • Over 90% of our students never earn 9th hour. It is doing the things that are expected of our students: • Be on Time • Be prepared for class • Have homework to turn in

  12. How does student drop-off and pick-up work?
