  2. Your daily life includes many habits • Habits can be good or bad. • Biting your nails, sucking your thumbs, smoking, cursing, punctuality, good manners, eating too much • The way you walk, talk, sit, stand, use gestures with your hands

  3. Depending on what they are . . . • Our habits can make us or break us. • We become what we repeatedly do. • Can we change our habits?

The 7 Habits of highly effective teens • The habits discussed in the book build upon one another • Page 6 • Habits 1,2,3 – Self Mastery • Habits 4,5,6 – Relationships and Teamwork • Habit 7 – Renewal • Refer to page 5 – Habits 1 -7 are listed and a brief • explanation is given. Take out a sheet of paper and number it 1 -7. Now, list opposite an opposite statement for that habit.

  5. Purpose of the 7 habits • Get control of your life • Improve relationships • Make smarter decisions • Get along with your parents • Define your values and what matters mos • Get more done in less time • Increase self confidence • Be happy • Find balance between school, work and friends

Study habits • When and where do you study best? • Do you prefer silence or background noise? • How can you avoid distractions that interfere with studying? • Keep a separate notebook for each class • Make sure you clearly understand the assignment • Complete your class assignments every day • Set aside a place and time to study • When it is time to study, begin immediately • Study in small segments of time. • Do the more difficult assignments first • Use your computer

  7. Organize your schedule • What important tasks must be done tomorrow?Which should be done first? Next? • By listing things ahead of time, are we more likely to do them well and on time?

  8. Improve your reading skill • Skill that is basic to all studying and schoolwork. • The better your read, the more effective studying will be. • Observe chapter titles, subheads, photos and charts. • Read sentences and paragraphs to understand the details of the idea.
