(2001 population 938,000) • Model travel on a typical fall day. • 25 Person/Purpose Travel Segments. • Nine Travel Modes (car driver, car passenger, bus passenger, park & ride, light rail transit, pedestrian, bicycle) • 5 Time Periods (AM Crown and Shoulder, PM Crown and Shoulder plus Off-peak). • Five EMME/2 databanks to run model. • Model is jointly run by the City of Edmonton and Alberta Transportation 17th International EMME/2 Users Conference Calgary Alberta, Canada October 22,23,24, 2003
What Do We Use Enif For? 17th International EMME/2 Users Conference Calgary Alberta, Canada October 22,23,24, 2003 • Display for Model/Network verification • Generation of Plots to Display Inputs /Results • Data Manipulation/Output
How Do We Configure Enif? 17th International EMME/2 Users Conference Calgary Alberta, Canada October 22,23,24, 2003 • EMME/2 and Enif operate under Microsoft NT4.0 • Local PCs with EMME/2 and Enif have dual monitors. • Network construction for EMME/2 and Enif is based on City of Edmonton spatial data extracted and built into the future via MicroStation J Spatial data in MicroStationJ Enif EMME/2
How Do We Configure Enif? 17th International EMME/2 Users Conference Calgary Alberta, Canada October 22,23,24, 2003 • Enif is installed on each local PC and operates using configuration files stored on the server. • Server based configuration files ensure consistency. All users access the same configurations. Any changes to a configuration are immediately available to all users. • Image Files (hydrography, aerial photos) are stored on local PC to reduce Enif plot loading times.
How Do We Configure Enif? 17th International EMME/2 Users Conference Calgary Alberta, Canada October 22,23,24, 2003 • Preferences for Plot output appearance include: - Window default - landscape - Link Display Primary highways - Red Arterials - Blue Collectors - light red - Volumes are rounded to user preference - Collector data typically not displayed - Legends in lower left or lower right corners - ‘Print legend’ not displayed • Plot output is directed to color printers or to Adobe Acrobat *.pdf file. (Full (read/write) version of Adobe Acrobat) (Enif ‘export print view’ - poor resolution and large file sizes.) • List output is directed to printers or to files using punch or cut & paste to a new file using Multi-Edit text editor.

What have we Resolved in Enif? 17th International EMME/2 Users Conference Calgary Alberta, Canada October 22,23,24, 2003 Bandwidth variation is minimal to maintain clarity/annotation • Link Volume Stylus for Model Results Clarity and growth concerns with Volume stylus Bar Scale - offers 5 steps of color plus band width adjustable to multiples of 5 only (5000, 10000,15000) Scale range must be usable to 20 year time frame for comparison purposes Clients focus on color more than band width Index Scale - offers >5 steps of color, no band width adjustable to user choice multiples (7500, 10000,12500) More indices means tighter volume ranges and greater clarity based on more colors
What have we Resolved in Enif? 17th International EMME/2 Users Conference Calgary Alberta, Canada October 22,23,24, 2003 Indices 8 and below round to next lower Index 9 is round to nearest • Volume Capacity Colors set stylus to pick up correct values Index 10 round to next higher
What have we Resolved in Enif? 17th International EMME/2 Users Conference Calgary Alberta, Canada October 22,23,24, 2003 Edit Legend Mapper to display 3 turn values (up3, up2, up1) Add up3 (hourly turn volume) to Turn values in Turns & Links mapper Edit Value in Legend to display ‘vol/hr, v/c, cap’ • Intersection Data Display for Model Results Turn data (volume/hour, volume/capacity ratio, capacity) For turns with specified TPF (Turn Penalty Function), turn capacity and turn V/C ratio are calculated. Value for V/C is set to 0.00 if TPF is not specified (if TPF value is 0=turn not allowed or -1=turn allowed)
What have we Resolved in Enif? 17th International EMME/2 Users Conference Calgary Alberta, Canada October 22,23,24, 2003 Two-way and one-way links mapped separately • Centred Daily 2-Way Transit Volumes Centred values with Bar Scale stylus With 2-way values on one side of link only band location will flip based on node number (I node<j node). With 2-way volume/2 on each side, band appears centred.
Some Outstanding Issues in Enif 17th International EMME/2 Users Conference Calgary Alberta, Canada October 22,23,24, 2003 • Connectivity between Intersection Picker and Turns & Links Mapper is not present. • Window within a window for split screen view of hourly volumes or for intersections.
Some Outstanding Issues in Enif 17th International EMME/2 Users Conference Calgary Alberta, Canada October 22,23,24, 2003 • Greater flexibility desired for Bar Scale - number of bars and scale values. • Print view with ‘tip’ displayed. • Spline curves. • Multiclass bars on Volume Plot. • Pull down menu for Predefined Views
Conclusions 17th International EMME/2 Users Conference Calgary Alberta, Canada October 22,23,24, 2003 • We like Enif. Most times a lot! • Excellent graphic display tool for EMME/2. • Allows easy manipulation of data that is cumbersome to extract in EMME/2. • Significant learning curve to get comfortable using Enif. • We are still learning how to maximize its utility.
