What is LCEC? • The Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC) is the national energy agency for Lebanon catering for all energy efficiency and renewable energy matters • LCEC is affiliated to the Lebanese Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW) • LCEC has succeeded in establishing itself as the technical reference point specialized in energy conservation issues within the structure of the MEW and the Lebanese Government
Important Milestones • - Soft loans for RE and EE Applications - NEEREA • - 1st Lebanese PV Farm over the Beirut River Banks - BRSS • 3 Million CFLs Project • Periodical Evaluation and Monitoring of SWH Companies in Lebanon and distribution of USD200 subsidy on SWH systems • 11 Collective Solar Water Heating Projects and 750 Residential SWH systems • Advertisement campaigns to promote RE and EE

Vocational Training for SWH Installers • Objectives: • Create a qualified workforce for installing and monitoring SWH systems • Placement of panels, shading principles, basic design knowledge, piping, welding, etc… • Raise the quality of installations • Diminish installation errors caused by poor experience/knowledge

2. Vocational Training for PV Installers • Planned Through the Project : Small Decentralized Renewable Energy Power Generation • GEF funded • Managed by UNDP • In collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Water through the LCEC

Vocational Training for PV Installers • Objectives: • Create a qualified workforce for installing and monitoring PV systems • Electrical norms, safety regulations, placement and connection of panels, principles of battery operation, etc… • Very small technical know-how for PV installations in Lebanon. • Raise the quality of installations • Diminish installation errors caused by poor experience/knowledge
3. PV Educational Platform • Source of Financing: FASEP – Formation Professionnelle. A French financing mechanism. • Partners • Ministry of Energy and Water • LCEC • IRI • UNDP • Private Sector companies and organizations (France solar industry, Transenergie,…)

PV Educational Platform • Objectives: • Creation of an educational and demonstrational platform for PV • Offers a training platform for the technical workforce • Create a link between the Lebanese and French Markets • The platform is planned to be completed by End of 2015 • Training of the trainers: Beginning 2016

PV Educational Platform • Current Phase: • Development of the training package • Setting the technical specifications for the platform • Forming the “Le Club Entreprises” • Defining contributions of the respective firms • Currently 12 confirmed participating firms, and 8 engaged and yet to sign agreements

The Energy University • Directed to professionals in the RE and EE sectors and self paced • 319 online courses in 12 languages • The platform is divided into several educational levels • LCEC has 3 course paths through the platform • Schneider is the owner of the platform • On completion a Schneider Certificate is distributed, for the LCEC path an independent certificate will be granted. • Several international partners and universities • First collaboration of its kind in the Middle East, and the League of Arab States showed interest in such collaboration.
5. MED-DESIRE – Training Initiatives • MED Desire Project: Pilot training on solar energy technology • Curriculum for solar standards and rules • Presentation of MED-DESIRE Project: • Funded by ENPI-CBC MED Programme • Includes 9 partners from 5 countries: Italy, Spain, Tunisia, Egypt, and Lebanon • Budget: Euros 4.47 Million • Includes several solar energy initiatives
6. Continuous Training Programs • Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency workshops, seminars, and technical trainings.
