Live Aid…some history • Concert held July 13, 1985 (famous bands and artists performed) • Organized by bob Geldof and Midge Ure • Purpose: to raise funds for ongoing famine in Ethiopia • Wembley Stadium, UK: 72,000 people attended • John F. Kennedy Stadium, PA, US: 100,000 attended • Australia and Germany held concerts on this date too • One of the largest scale satellite link-ups and television broadcasts of all time • 1.9 million people watched across 150 nations • £150 million was raised

Environmental Connections • Earth’s environmental systems are amazing • They are interconnected…they work together to create life for plants, animals and humans • Earth, air and water work in am amazing system • Is there ever a time in which earth, air and/or water do not work together? • Do environmental problems have boundaries?
Environmental… • Oil spills are a major environmental problem • Should one happen, the contaminated water could effect many countries…and animals
Air Pollution… • A cool wind is lovely on a warm summer day, but not when it is carrying pollution from other regions, nationally or internationally
Chemical Issues… • BioVectra is located in Charlottetown, PE • It is a very successful company • It is good for PEI in terms of economics • BioVectra says that it’s facilities are safe, however, they are discouraged with the governments ruling to allow an apartment to be built so close by • BioVectra says it’s “unsafe” http://news.ca.msn.com/local/pei/biovectras-hearing-against-apartment-plan-wraps-up
Industrial Garbage • Industrial Garbage is gross • People and companies are not disposing properly of many materials (oil tanks, gas cans, medication, dirty diapers,technology, etc.) • Improperly “dumping” garbage hurts the land, animals, water supplies, humans…endless

Economic Connections Opportunities through economic connections have become important because: Regional Specialization Regions export goods and services to location where they are not produced and import goods that are not produced at home. (export fish products and import tropical fruit) Location Neighboring countries trade often because of smaller costs. Competitiveness Compete to be about of global market by producing well priced goods and services and making use of natural reasouces, work force, or technology.
