  2. What is science? • Using concept maps to support student learning. • Examine the chart paper at the front of the room. • Compare those class notes with the individual concept maps from my Grade 10 students provided. • What are the similarities and differences.

  3. RESOURCE SHARING • Indicate which units you taught last practicum and which units you will teach this practicum on the sheets provided • Please bring your resources to share to class next week. (remember Thurs and Fri classes are cancelled this week)

  5. PEEL database-3 helpful hints • If you are on a Queen’s computer- you just have to click on the START PEEL IN PRACTICE button 2. Narrow your search using teacher concerns, subject area and years (equivalent to grades in Canada) 3. CLEAR THE BOX IN THE TOP LEFT HAND CORNER BY CLICKING ON THE SEARCH CRITIERIA THAT YOU SELECTED

  6. LEARNING SKILLS • Expert Group-CHOOSE ONE LEARNING SKILLS ASSESSMENT TOOL • Assess your own learning with this tool. • Discuss what you learned from it with your group members • Prepare a brief (2-3 minute) presentation that you will share with your home group.

  7. Learning Skills Move back to your home group • Each person will take 2-3 minutes to share what they learned about their learning skill assessment tool. • After you have shared- please decide which one you would like to use with your students. Be prepared to explain why to the whole group.

  10. What is Science? Assignment • Pick one question that genuinely interests you and start to do some research to answer it • Share your information next class with a group of 5 people • Hand in your question and one reference sheet • See www.post.queensu.ca/~christie

What’s Next? • Small Group- Sharing Session- What did you learn from your What is science mini-mini project • Resource Sharing- Look at the sign up sheets and see who needs resources from the units you taught • Writing clear instructions for students-BRING AN ASSIGNMENT THAT YOU USED WITH YOUR STUDENTS IN ANY SUBJECT TO CLASS NEXT WEEK • Don’t forget to plan your ALFIE KOHN party…have fun!!
