Training Objectives • EFS and Pictometry Basics • File Extensions and Icons • Creating a new workspace-from scratch • Connecting EFS to a warehouse • Customizing the EFS Interface • Creating a GIS Annotation Layer • Creating Address Search Set-Up • Exporting Data from Analysis Tools • EFS Updates from the Web • Wrap Up EFS 2.7 - AU1
.PMI Pictometry Map Image Ortho Images and Maps .PSI Pictometry Shot Image Oblique Images .PLF Pictometry License File File Extensions and Icons EFS 2.7 - AU1
.PWF Pictometry Workspace File .PEF Pictometry Elevation File .PIW Pictometry Image Warehouse .PAX Pictometry Address Setup File Extensions and Icons EFS 2.7 - AU1
Creating a New Workspace • Starting Point/Launching Pad • Multiple Workspaces for Multiple Tasks • A way to collect, organize and share images for future reference • File->New Workspace • 2 dialog boxes • 1st Select the warehouse of imagery you’d like to use • 2nd Select Base Map associated with warehouse • New Workspace has been created • Save Workspace with filename of your choice EFS 2.7 - AU1
Connecting EFS to a Warehouse • This needs to be done at every workstation • Part of the installation process of EFS • UNC Naming (\\server\share) vs. Drive Mapping (G:\) • Here’s how: • Click on Image Tool Properties in the tool bar or go to “Navigate” > “Image Tool Properties” EFS 2.7 - AU1
File has a .PIW Extension • To see file extensions, you need to have Windows configured to display them • “Tools” > “Folder Options” > “View” Tab • Deselect “Hide file extensions for known file types” • Or look for the icon: EFS 2.7 - AU1
Pictometry Workspace File • To make EFS access easy for Users • Create a default “Starter Workspace” for everyone’s use • Save the workspace to a protected network location • Create a shortcut on users’ Desktops to this default workspace EFS 2.7 - AU1
Saving a Workspace • All workspaces saved as a .pwf file • Sharing workspaces is dependent on the directory path • Must have the same path to view images • Problems occur only for recipient • UNC (universal naming convention) is highly recommended • \\Server\Share Name • Don’t rely on mapped drives • G:\ EFS 2.7 - AU1
Sharing Workspaces • Useful tool • Must have same path to library of imagery • Potential problems can be avoided • Same universal naming convention and file names are essential • Don’t rely on designated drive letters • Must have EFS to view shared workspace! EFS 2.7 - AU1
Customizing Workspace Windows • We All Have Preferences! • Layout – Tools>Customize>Configs • Image View, Image View Measure Markup, Power User, Touchscreen • Windows - View Dropdown • Navigation Window, Workspace Window, Thumbnail Window, Output Window, Workbook Mode Tabs • Toolbars – Tools>Customize>Commands • Tools>Choose Appropriate Tool>Properties • Compass properties – View>Navigation Properties • Visibility, Size and Location options • Status bar – Right click or View • Visibility, Size and Font options EFS 2.7 - AU1
Creating a GIS Annotation Layer • Items to know before creating a GIS layer: • Source: Shapefile or SDE database? • Shapefile path (Directory)? • SDE connection Info (Server, Instance, Database, User Name, Password)? • Annotate > SDE Connection (must be connected to use SDE data) • Coordinate system - .prj file? EFS 2.7 - AU1
Steps to Create a GIS Annotation Layer EFS 2.7 - AU1
The Query Tool Display • Output Window – Query Info Tab • Lists the full database record for the selected GIS layer • Allows you to create a custom field only for the selected GIS layer • Custom field is only for the workspace in which that layer exists EFS 2.7 - AU1
RIGHT CLICK ON PARCEL LAYER>PROPERTIES FOR PARCELS EFS 2.7 - AU1
GIS OBJECT QUERY DISPLAY EFS 2.7 - AU1
Creating an Address Search Profile • An Address Profile defines one type of search set-up • Items to know before creating an address search profile: • Source: Shapefile or SDE database? • Shapefile path (directory)? • SDE connection info (Server, Instance, • Database, User Name, Password)? • Coordinate system - .prj file? • GIS and EFS must have correlating fields EFS 2.7 - AU1
Different types of searches: • Parcel based and Range (GeoCode) based • Required search fields dependent on type of search • Parcel based (street address) • Number and Name • Parcel based (ID number) • Number • Range based (geocode from street centerlines) • Street Name and • Fields ‘From L/R’ and ‘To L/R’ EFS 2.7 - AU1
Address Search Results • By default, a parcel search result is returned as a 1px black solid outline • To change this, the shape file being searched must be added to the workspace. • Right click and go to Search [layerName] and then the properties tab. • The layer need not be present in the workspace to be searchable by the Address Search function, but must be added to change this preference. EFS 2.7 - AU1
Address Profile Exporting, Importing and Properties • Allows sharing amongst multiple users • Exporting creates a .pax file (Pictometry Address exchange) in designated directory • Import .pax to any machine • Object Highlight – color, line width EFS 2.7 - AU1
Exporting Data from Analysis Tools • An inventory of various features based on the analysis tool used: • “Location” of Telephone Poles • “Distance” between Fire Hydrants • “Height” of Electrical Towers • “Area” of Specific Parcels EFS 2.7 - AU1
Exporting (cont’d) • Set-Up for Tool Export • Select annotation tool and bring up the tool’s properties Ctrl+P • Turn on the Exporter within tool’s properties • Select Entry Template • Enter PreFill Comment • Set Coordinates EFS 2.7 - AU1
EFS Updates from the Web • Either done ‘Manually’ or via ‘Updater’ • Manually • Help Pull-down Menu -> Pictometry on the Web • Online Updates • If the computer is connected to the Internet, this will bring the user to our site where they can access any updates that are available. • Manually • Updater is installed when EFS is installed • Will automatically check to see if updates are available EFS 2.7 - AU1
Latest EFS 2.7 R1.11 EFS 2.7 - AU1
