They must remain on task at all times in order to keep laptop privileges. Students caught off task will be warned. If this occurs frequently, students may lose laptop privileges for the day in math class and will have to complete assignments using paper and pencil. Please see NWHS Laptop policies for more details. • CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS/RULES • Be on time and ready to learn when the bell rings • Clean up after yourself • Be on task at all times • Complete assignments in timely manner • Show respect to everyone and everything FALL 20141st & 4thPERIOD • Attendance • Wilkes County Schools attendance policy states that any student who misses more than 6 days may have to appeal their absences and could be subject to failing their course(s). Students must have valid reasons for being absent for credit to be awarded. • However, we understand that emergencies and illnesses can arise. If a student must be absent, they are expected to make up their work in a timely fashion. • Students who arrive late to school or late to class during the day may have to serve lunch detention or be given other consequences depending on the frequency of tardies. Course Description Advanced Functions is the study of mathematical concepts , operations and they can all be applied to real world situations. Students will be assigned various projects, homework assignments, and in class activities in order to learn about these topics mentioned above. Students will be expected to complete all assignments in order to build their basis for future courses. There is a state mandated final exam at the end of this course in January. The exam counts for 20% of the student’s final grade.
Classroom Website deanashirk.wikispaces.com/ Hall Passes Students should take care of personal business during breaks (restroom, office and locker visits). However, emergencies can arise so each student will be given 2 hall passes per 9 weeks. Hall passes must be turned in for each trip outside of the room unless otherwise specified. Once a student uses both passes, they will owe time during breaks. If a student still has both hall passes, their lowest quiz grade will be dropped at the end of the 9 weeks. Students will have the ability to log onto our classroom website to find assignments, links to worksheets, notes, and many other resources that may be used in class. Assignments will be updated daily. Late Work/Make-up Work Students are expected to turn in work on time. If work is turned in late without prior permission from the teacher, points will be deducted. Students will not be able to earn extra credit if work is missing. If a student is missing work due to an absence, they have the number of days they missed plus 1 to turn it in. If a test or quiz is missed it can be made-up before or after school unless another time is set up with me. Please let me know ahead of time if you know you will be missing a test. • CONSEQUENCES • Students are expected to follow all classroom rules and procedures. If a student does not, they may have to face consequences. The severity of the incident will dictate if consequences needed to be skipped. • Consequences are as follows: • 1st offence-Warning • 2nd offense-Break Detention • 3rd offense-Parent contact/Break Detention • More than 3 offense of the same manner • After school detention • Office visit • Parent Conference Calculators Students will be assigned calculators in the classroom. These calculators are not to be taken out of the room unless permission is given. Calculators should be picked up out of the holder at the beginning of every class and put back up at the end. Always check to make sure your calculator is working as soon as you pick it up. Any student who damages a calculator will be held responsible. Students are allowed to bring their own calculators, if they have them. Personal calculators are not required. Tutoring If a student is struggling with topics we are discussing in class, tutoring is available. I want my students to be successful and am willing to set aside some 1 on 1 time for them. Tutoring will mainly be held after school until around 4:00pm. Other tutoring times can be set up if prior notice is given. Please let me know if I can help!
