  2. Workshop Goal • To understand the data-driven improvement planning process and its implications for refinement of performance tasks, rubrics, and curriculum. Virginia Beach City Public Schools

VBCPS Outcomes for Student Success All VBCPS students will be: • Academically proficient • Effective communicators and collaborators • Globally aware, independent, responsible learners and citizens • Critical and creative thinkers, innovators, and problem solvers Virginia Beach City Public Schools

  4. Strategic Plan: Objective 2 Virginia Beach City Public Schools will develop and implement a balanced assessment system that accurately reflects student demonstration and mastery of VBCPS outcomes for student success. Virginia Beach City Public Schools

Think-Pair-Share • With a shoulder partner, take a few minutes to: • Explain the parts of the Data-Driven Improvement Planning Process (DDIPP) • Determine how the DDIPP can be used as a vital tool to examine student work, and therefore, learning goals and outcomes Virginia Beach City Public Schools

  6. Data-driven Improvement Planning Process • Establish Context for the Task • Calibration • Analysis: Patterns of Strength • Analysis: Areas of Improvement • Specific Improvement Actions Virginia Beach City Public Schools

  7. Participation in the Process • The participant: • leaves his/her ego at the door • uses student work as the basis for discussion • respectfully and actively listens to information and ideas presented by other participants • remains “on topic” in discussion per specific area of focus • offers suggestions regarding the development and refinement of performance tasks, rubrics, and curriculum design • shares the collective responsibility for attending to the agreed upon specific improvement actions to be taken Virginia Beach City Public Schools

Facilitation of the Process • The facilitator: • communicates instructions, purpose, and goals clearly • ensures the process is systematically followed • ensures the discussion remains “on topic,” redirecting to focus area as needed • ensures that student work is the basis for discussion, development, and refinement of performance tasks, rubrics, and curriculum design • uses the data-driven improvement planning sheet to record agreed upon evidence for the collective group • summarizes the information in each category prior to continuing the process • ensures that there is a respectful, professional exchange of ideas Virginia Beach City Public Schools
