Welcome to PMT SummerSchool • Lisbon • 2013
The Lisbon lies on the right bank of the river Tejo, near where the river enters the Atlantic. It is a city of valleys and hills overlooking the river, and grew outwards from the hill on which the ancient castle was built. The square close to the new Royal Palace, together with Rossio, is the political and commercial centre. Downtown Lisbon still retains its 18th-century character. Over the centuries, Lisbon has gone through considerable changes, but many traces of the city’s rich past have been retained.
Lisbon is still a city of many contrasts, a modern and ancient city... The characteristic quarters of the city are a must-see for culture, history, architecture and people, who have managed to pass on their traditions down the years. Lisbon is the only European capital with Atlantic beaches, and its coastline is ideal for swimming, surfing, sailing and windsurfing. By taking the train it is possible to discover the golden sandy beaches of Estoril and Cascais and the best surfing waters at the world-famous Guincho.
The Faculdade de Motricidade Humana (of the Technical University of Lisbon) is the most ancient Portuguese institution of Psychomotor Therapy (bachelor and master level). The curriculum is based on a holistic view of the person, integrating the mutual influence of motor, cognitive and social-emotional competencies expressed by action and body expression for a real participation of the person in the psychosocial context. The bachelor curriculum is designed to give students competencies to work extensively in preventive, pedagogical and therapeutic domains, in the different ages of life. Therefore, the main goal of FMH is human development through movement, by means of the study of the body and its manifestations in the interaction between biological processes and sociocultural values.

Greeting Portuguese are considered enthusiastic people and they like to kiss girls with 1 or 2 (or 3 or 4…) kisses. In general the first kiss is given on the right side of the face, in opposite with the Italians that start kissing on the left side. Between men a hand shake or a clap on the back is the common greeting.
Gastronomy For such a small country, Portugal has a surprisingly large variety of gastronomic delights. In Lisbon - a city of mixed cultures, tastes and spices - you will find everything from international, to regional and prize-winning cuisines. However, take advantage of living in Lisbon and try the typical dishes such as: grilled sardines, snails, codfish, deep fried green beans, roasted chestnuts and Pastéis de Belém, etc...
Drinking coffee in Lisbon Portugal is a country of journeys and discoveries. Brazil, Africa and Timor’s exotic influence awakened a strong taste for coffee in the Portuguese culture. In Lisbon coffee widely enjoyed and there are different ways to drink it according to your tastes. A bica is a tiny but powerful cup of black coffee, similar to an expresso. Ask for a italiana if you can’t wake up. A galão (half milk, half coffee), is for those who haven’t got used to the taste of the coffee in Portugal yet. But you will quickly move on to a garoto (strong coffee with a dash of milk) and at the end of the month you will surely be asking for a bicase fazfavor. Any excuse is good enough to take a coffee in an esplanade in the sun.
