2. On the 9th of May 1950, Robert Schuman presented his proposal on the creation of an organised Europe. This proposal, known as the "Schuman declaration", can be called the beginning of the creation of the European Union. Today, the 9th of May has become a European symbol - Europe Day. It is the occasion for activities and festivities that bring Europe closer to its citizens and people of the Union closer to one another. 9 maja 1950 roku ROBBIE SCHUMAN przedstawił swą propozycję stworzenia zorganizowanej Europy. Ta propozycja, znana jako „Deklaracja Schumana” może być zwana początkiem Unii Europejskiej. Obecnie dzień 9 maja stał się symbolem Unii – Dniem Europy. To jest okazja do zabaw i festiwali które jednoczą obywateli Unii Europejskiej.

3. “United in diversity” is the motto of the European Union. The motto means that, via the EU, Europeans are united in working together for peace and prosperity, and that the many different cultures, traditions and languages in Europe are all important for the continent. “Zjednoczona w różnorodności” jest mottem Unii Europejskiej. To motto oznacz że poprzez UE, Europejczycy jednoczą się w pracy razem w celu osiągnięcia pokoju i dobrobytu, i że wszystkie różnorodne kultury, tradycje i języki w Europie są ważne dla kontynentu.

4. This is the European flag. It is the symbol not only of the European Union but also of Europe's unity and identity. The circle of gold stars represents solidarity and harmony between the people of Europe. The number of stars has nothing to do with the number of Member States. There are twelve stars because the number twelve is traditionally the symbol of perfection, completeness and unity. To jest flaga Europy. To jest symbol nie tylko Unii Europejskiej, ale także europejskiej jedności i tożsamości. Koło ze złotych gwiazd reprezentuje solidarność i harmonię między ludźmi Europy. Liczba gwiazd nie oznacza liczby członków Unii. Gwiazd jest dwanaście, ponieważ liczba 12 jest tradycyjnym symbolem ideału, kompletności i jedności.

5. The melody of the anthem of the European Union comes from the Ninth Symphony composed in 1823 by Ludwig Van Beethoven. The lyrics come from the "Ode to Joy" written in 1785 by Friedrich von Schiller. Melodia hymnu Unii Europejskiej pochodzi z Dziewiątej Symfonii skomponowanej w 1823 r. przez Ludwiga Van Beethovena. Słowa pochodzą z „Ody do Radości”, napisanej w 1785 przez Friedricha Von Schillera.

6. In today's global society knowledge of foreign languages is an invaluable and extremely important ability. Anybody interested in studying or working abroad may discover it is often not enough to simply speak English, but to know other cultures, too. W dzisiejszym globalnym społeczeństwie znajomość obcych języków jest nieocenioną i niezwykle ważną umiejętnością. Każdy, kto chciałby uczyć się albo pracować zagranicą może odkryć, że często nie wystarczy po prostu mówić po angielsku, ale trzeba też znać inne kultury.

7. The European Union has 27 Member States and 23 official languages(i.e. the ones used for EU business). Each Member State, when it joins the Union, decides for its own official language. Unia Europejska ma 27 państw członkowskich i 23 oficjalne języki (to znaczy takich używanych w EU biznesie). Każdy kraj członkowski, kiedy przyłącza się do Unii , decyduje jaki będzie jego oficjalny język.

8. The European Union makes it easier for us to travel but also to live, study or work abroad. We may buy and sell products from another European Union country as well as share our skills and expertise. People in the European Union may even transfer or invest money around the European Union. Unia Europejska ułatwia nam podróżowanie, a także życie, uczenie się i pracę zagranicą. Możemy kupować i sprzedawać produkty w innych krajach Unii Europejskiej, a także podzielić się naszymi umiejętnościami i doświadczeniem. Ludzie mogą transferować i inwestować pieniądze wśród Unii Europejskiej.

9. Schengen zone 1. No police or customs checks at borders between most EU countries. 2. Controls strengthened at EU external borders. 3. More cooperation between police from different EU countries. 4. You can buy and bring back any goods for personal use when you travel between EU countries. Pollution knows no borders – joint action needed: 1. Use less water and energy 2. Use lead-free petrol 3. Free and safe disposal of old electronic equipment 4. More effective health warnings on cigarettes 5. Registration and control of all chemicals

Więcej współpracy między policją z różnych krajów UE. 4. Kiedy podróżuje się w krajach UE, można kupić i przywieźć z powrotem wszystkie towary na własny użytek. Zanieczyszczenie nie zna granic – potrzebna jest wspólna akcja: 1. Używaj mniej wody i energii 2. Używaj benzyny bezołowiowej 3. Darmowe i bezpieczne składowanie starego sprzętu elektronicznego 4. Lepsze obostrzenia dotyczące palenia papierosów 5. Regulacja i kontrola wszystkich substancji chemicznych
