Create An Instant Connection by “Hijacking Attention” • Ask the audience a question • Invite them to imagine a situation • Say “Consider this:” and follow with your hypothesis • Pose a question and ask them to discuss briefly with the person next to them • Declare something surprising or reveal a surprising fact • Ask for a show of hands • Say “Before we start” and then give them a command, such as: • Consider this, think about this, stop for a moment to reflect on; • “On a scale of 1-10 how important do you feel this topic is?” • “I’d like you to invite you to stop for a moment and imagine that…(situation)” • “Consider this: (subject) may be way more important than you thought…” • “Before we start, turn to the person next to you and discuss this question: (question) • “What I am about to tell you…is going to change your way of thinking about (subject) • “Before we begin, show me your hands if you are familiar with this topic…” • “Before we start, take a moment to reflect on this fact: HANDOUT
