  4. What is HPC Asia • An conference held every 18 months in Asia-Pacific region. • for HPC researchers, developers and users throughout the world to exchange ideas, case studies and research results. HPC Asia 2009 accepted paper submissions.

It is the sixth largest port in the world • Kaohsiung Metro Rapid Transit to be completed in 2008 • 90 min away from Taipei by High-Speed Rail • Scenic attractions: museums, cultural centers, beaches, lakes, the Love River, shopping. • The hotel selected is 20 min away from the Kaohsiung International Airport; 10 min from the Kaohsiung Train Station by car. • Site of the 2009 World Games (July 16-26)‏

  17. About Kaohsiung (Cont'd)‏ • The Kaohsiung Rapid Transit (KRT) and the Taiwan High-Speed Rail (THSR) will be ready. • The KRT is scheduled to be completed in 2008. • The THSR has been operational in January 2007.

Network Environment • Uplinks: • 1 or 2 GE connection to TWAREN (with 10Gbps backbone, totally 5 Gbps to Internet2 and 500 Mbps to commodity Internet)‏. • IPv6 enabled • Lightpath may be possible (not confirmed). Wireless Networks: Covers all meeting rooms in 9F and 15F. Laptop Bar will be provided.

  29. Fundings and Fees • Governmental Origins: • Proposals have been submitted to multiple Taiwan governmental authorities. We have got a grant from the National Science Council. Others are to be confirmed. • Donations: • The donation from commercial vendors will be confirmed before the end of 2008.

  31. Fellowship Budget • Costs for each fellow (in USD) • Registration Fee: 300 • Accommodation: Double bed room 70 / 2 persons x 4 nights = 140 • Dinner: 5 x 2 nights = 10 • Transportation: 5 x 2 (Round Trip) = 10 • Total 460 (each) x 30 fellows = 13800

  32. Fellowship Budget (Con't) • The budget we share: USD 200 (registration fee, for 30 fellows). • The budget on APAN: 460 – 200 = 260 (each) • Total budget on APAN: 260 x 30 fellows = 7800

  33. Fellowship Accommodation • 4-star hotel within 5-10 minutes walking distance to the venue, or • 5-star hotel with a shuttle bus service • Breakfast included. • Internet access provided.

  34. Fellowship Dinners • USD 5 is enough for a regular meal in Macdonald, which is usually the most expensive option for a dinner in the local life. • Many choices around USD 2-4. • Buffet takes USD 8-16.

Fellowship Transportation • The transportation from the Kaohsiung international airport to the venue or fellows' hotel: • Take the Kaohsiung Rapid Transit (KRT) from the airport to the Central Park station. USD 1 • Take a taxi from the Central Park station to the venue or hotel, at the starting price of the meter, about USD 3 • Or by walking about 15-20 minutes from the Central Park station to the hotel.
