  27. Scripture Isaiah 9:6, 7

  28. Introduction • God began to speak through the prophets as soon as man fell. (Gen. 3:15) • Isaiah 7:14 – A statement of the incarnation.

  29. The first step in man’s redemption must be the union of God and man. • Why? • Pascal – “A God-sized hole in the heart of man.”

  30. God created man for the joy of fellowship and wonder of worship.Isaiah 7:14 “A virgin… shall conceive..”

  31. His name shall be calledImmanuel – God with us. • God suggests the union of deity and humanity/Incarnation. • He is to be of the House of David. – Isaiah 9:7

  32. From Genesis 3 throughout Scripture, the prophetic theme is repeated – the Lordship and dominion of the coming Savior. • Today people are in bondage.

  33. His Names – • Wonderful Counselor • Mighty God • Everlasting Father • Prince of Peace

  34. Names Of God – • OT – Symbolize His eternal existence, ability to conquer, willingness to respond to man… • Elohim, Adonai, Shaddai, andJehovah

  35. New Testament Record – • John 1:14… • “And the Word became flesh… and dwelt among us.”

  36. Peter’s sermon: Acts 2:22-34Speaks of the unspeakable sacrifice of Jesus. • Note – • Peter believed that Jesus went to hell to suffer unspeakable agonies of torture, that out of His agony and suffering, the church would be born.

  37. Christ had to die physically and spiritually. • Therefore - • His resurrection was a double one.

  38. Conclusion – • God with us. An act of union and restoration that could only be accomplished through payment in full of the penalty for our sin. • He has made His will known to us through Jesus… our response to the Savior will seal our destiny!
