What type of animal is being tracked?

NOAA is seeking help to design a solution for the bycatch problem faced by salmon fishermen. This video showcases GPS tracking data and observations of the streamer line in action, along with the use of blue-dyed weighted bait. Collect important data as a class to address this issue effectively.

  8. Problem: NOAA wants to hire you. Salmon fishermen are having problems with bycatch (the unwanted marine creatures caught while fishing for a different species). The fishermen aren’t catching birds, because they’re using nets instead of longlines with bait, but they are catching juvenile salmon, mackerel, sardines, and other small fish. Often, these small fish die before the fishermen can throw them back in the water. They’ve asked you to help them design a solution to this bycatch problem.
