  2. Frankenstein Journal 08/29/11 • How does Mary Shelley repeatedly illustrate that it is not science per se, but Victor Frankenstein's narcissism and hunger for self-aggrandizement—the results of class and chivalric values of power—that are the central problems of Frankenstein and of society?

  3. 09/02/11-Journal • How does discussion help you understand complex topics? What is the importance of talking about issues? Why do you feel that discussion is beneficial?

  4. Journal 9/13/11 • What are the characteristics of a dystopian novel? What types of dystopian novels have you read before?

  5. Journal 9/15/11 • Describe the differences the cartoon above is depicting regarding utopiary and dsytopiary viewpoints.

  6. Journal 9/19/11 • ): What was your initial reaction to reading the novel? What shocked you? Why? Do you feel this is a dystopian novel based on the characteristics we previously covered in class?

  7. Closing • Review of what you learned today. • Summarize what you found the most challenging part of the story thus far.

  8. Journal 9/21/11 • Use three of your vocabulary words in a sentence.

  9. Each One, Give One • When you have written your sentences, you must get out of your seat. • Find another student and give them one of your sentences. • You must also accept one of their sentences and add it to your journal. • You will complete this rotation 3 times.

Four Corners Kinesthetic Activity • You were assigned to read chapters 4 and 5 of Brave New World. • What is the tone of those two chapters? • Move to one of the four corners labeled in the room that best describes what you think the TONE of those two chapter are. • Be prepared to justify why you feel that way.

  11. Journal 9/23/11 • What major plot developments have occurred in the last four chapters as compared to the first five?
