Highlight of Current Activities • Feasibility studies of standardization of SDR and CR; • SDR: focus on nodes as mobile devices and base stations, • CR: focus on functional architecture; • Liaisons with relevant regulatory bodies. • Definition issues (SDR, CR) settled: aligning with ITU-R work. • Substantial interest to start to standardize SDR and CR.
Strategic Direction • Initiate SDR standardization. • Initiate CR standardization. • Further studies in the area of CR, as benefits, spectrum trading mechanisms and consequences, data base communication.
Challenges • Market is moving very fast in the area of CR – standards are urgently needed in eg the area of UHF TV-bands. • There is an urgent need for a solid scientific basis regarding the benefits and effects of CR. • As well as more knowledge on concrete market interest of spectrum trading.
Next Steps/Actions • Initiate standardization of SDR and CR. • Studies of essential areas of the effects of CR.
Additional info • Three reports have been approved: • TR 102 680, “SDR architecture for mobile device” (published). • TR 102 681, “Radio Base Station (RBS) Software Defined Radio (SDR) status”. • TR 102 682, “Functional Architecture (FA), for the management and control of Reconfigurable Radio Systems.
