Wide consultations at different stages of work • Jul 2012: A survey of national statistical offices (48 repl.) • Oct 2012: Stakeholder interviews • Nov 2012: First expert meeting on climate change related statistics for producers and users • Spring 2013: Interim recommendations at CES & Bureau • Oct 2013: Second expert meeting • Feb-Mar 2014: full text consulted among CES members and stakeholders from the climate community

Consultation in March 2014 • 41 replies (+ 1) • General comments All respondents considered that the recommendations: • Are balanced, clear and comprehensive – with useful examples • Provide direction for development work • Are based on existing strengths and data of official statistics • CES: All supported endorsement • Stakeholders: All welcomed NSO involvement

Priorities for further work Respondents called for further work • Greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories: improving consistency and further aligning the work; methodology development for GHG inventories; timelier estimates of GHG inventories • Climate change related statistics: a core set of statistics;improving current classifications; priority areas of new statistics; exploring SEEA as a tool • Communication aspects: common frameworks for dissemination; promoting cooperation with climate experts; promoting at statistical meetings

  5. Sharing good practices • All countries plan to start implementing the recommendations after endorsement • Several asked for a small steering group to lead the work and • Supported establishing regular expert meetings • Countries asked for support through expert meetings and training activities; bilateral support; international work towards common standards; repositories of methodological material; translations; and funding for capacity building

  6. The Conference is invited to • Endorse the recommendations • Subject to the comments from the CES consultation and the discussion at the plenary session • Support the establishment of a small steering group to guide the work and a regular expert meeting for sharing experience on conceptual and practical issues • Recognize the need for further work to address issues identified in the recommendations and the CES consultation
