The Big Idea • You will be creating a presentation using one of the following technology tools: • Glogster- An interactive poster • Prezi- A non-linear presentation tool • Animoto- A slide show program that can incorporate music, images, and video. • SlideRocket- Similar to Animoto • I will show you how to use these programs • PowerPoint is not allowed
This is a Contest • One winner will be chosen from each of my sections. These finalists will receive a prize. • Then, I will have our administration team (Principals, Superintendent, etc.) select one winner. So…. • Create a unique project. • Take pride in your work. • Be aware that other people will be viewing and critiquing your work. • Show off your skills.
Objectives During this project, you will: • Demonstrate knowledge of 1984. • Use knowledge of 1984 to create a presentation that discusses multiple areas and/or concepts of the novel. • Use technology that incorporates images, music, and/or video to communicate knowledge of 1984. • Present a multimedia project to your classmates. • Make text-to-world connections from1984 to songs, politics, history, etc. • Write an essay rationale for your project that discusses each component. • Learn how to cite information using the MLA format.
Part I: Select a Theme • The individual in conflict with society. • The irrationality of the "rational" institution. • The alienation and isolation of modern man. • The past as a loss, a value, an obsession, or an escape. • The search for moral structure, purpose, hope, truth, or a personal dream.
Part I: Explain Explain how Orwell develops and shows the theme in 1984. • 1 paragraph • Where is this seen? (Concrete Detail + Commentary) • Find quotes for support (provide a page #).
Part II: Select an Artifact Your artifact must relate to your theme • The glass paperweight • The diary • Propaganda • The Telescreen • Any other approved concrete item from the novel • Explain the significance of this artifact in relation to your theme.
Part III: Select a Song Soundtrack of the novel Your song must relate to your theme • Explain how the song connects to your theme • Provide a lyrical “quote.”
Part IV: 1984 Then and Now You will research one of the following and relate it to your theme: • What inspired Orwell (Hitler, Stalin, etc.) • North Korea and 1984 • 1984 in today’s society • Use 1 or 2 sources. Sources must be approved. • Bring to the next class period!
Part V: An Article of Your Choice • Propaganda • Obituary • Bio • Ministries • Advertisement • Etc. • You must have a quote for support.
Presentation • Interactive document/newspaper • Use Glogster, Prezi, or Animoto to create a multimedia presentation. • All of your components must be represented in your visual presentation. Use images, music, videos, etc. to make your presentation interesting and unique.
