1. Atomic Bombs The use of ‘Fat Man’ and “Little Boy” changed the world and made it apparent the destructive ability of the atomic weapons. These two bombs are responsible for the decisive end of the war.
2. Holocaust The Holocaust was the greatest atrocity committed to man, and caused the deaths of 11 million people.
3. D-Day The largest assault of it’s kind in WWII, this courageous attack showed Eisenhower’s skill for war tactics and was the beginning of the liberation of France.
4. Selective Service This act was responsible for the addition of 16 million men to the US Army, a necessity for going into WWII.
5. War Production BoardThe War Production Board was the heart of the war effort and was responsible for the mass mobilization of America for war.
6. Yalta Conference The Yalta Conference was the meeting of the top Allied leaders. This conference re-established the terms for the end of war.
7. Battle of Stalingrad This battle was critical as it was the first loss for the German army and the best victory for the Allies at that time.
8. Pearl Harbor This attack of the Japanese on the American base was the initiative for the US to enter WWII.
9. Battle of Coral Sea This was the first victory of the Allies over the Japanese fleet, and was revolutionary as the first naval battle to be fought by aircraft carriers. bv
10. Battle of Midway This victory was a crushing one for America, as they managed to destroy most of Japan’s naval fleet.
11. Blitzkreig This tactic used by the German army was revolutionary to war as it utilized all technology available to the army.
12. Battle of the Bulge This was the final push back by the German army. However, after the loss, the German leaders realized that the end of the war would come soon.
13. PropagandaUsed by all countries, Propaganda kept national pride high and hatred for their enemies high as well.
14. Battle of Okinawa/Iwo Jima The pair of battles at these Japanese island chains were fought fiercely and the Japanese showed their intense desire for victory.
15. Battle of Britain This battle showed the skill of the Royal Air Force and pushed back the German Luftwaffe force, a huge moment for the Allies.
