WWII • World War II started in 1939 and ended in 1945. • Germany was in a depression and the people were looking for a new leader. • They found it in the inspiring lectures of Adolph Hitler, a failed artist but successful German general.
WWII • Although a descendent of Jews, Adolph Hitler had a hatred for anyone he considered not “Aryan”. • Taking advantage of the peoples desperation, Hitler convinced many that the reason for their economic suffering stemmed from the upper class Jews and other non-Aryans.
Auschwitz • The concentration camps were originally stated to be refugee stations called ghettos. • The Jewish population were lead to believe that they would have self government. • This was a lie meant to aid in the break down of the Jewish peoples resolve.
Jewish Art • Many of the Jewish have taken drastic measures to ensure that something like the Holocaust will not happen again. • Israel was a gift of land given to the Jewish refugees by Britain, after WWII. • Jewish artists since have very often turned to social and political issues in their work.
