“For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame” (Heb. 6:4-6).
1. Enlightened • “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints” (Ephesians 1:18).
The Greek word for enlightened is PHOTIZO, is translated “enlightened.” Our English word “photo” is closely related to it. It means “to bring to light, to give light, and to make plain.”
“But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light (PHOTISANTOS) through the gospel” (2 Tim. 1:10).
2. Tasted of the Heavenly Gift • “And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification” (Rom. 5:16).
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8). • “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” (Jas. 1:17).
3. Partakers of the Holy Ghost • “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the HolyGhost” (Acts 2:38).
“Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the HolyGhost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business” (Acts 6:3).
4. Tasted of the Good Word of God • “But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty” (Matt. 13:23).
“If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained” (1 Tim. 4:6).
5. Powers of the World to Come • “To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God” (Eph. 3:10).
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenlyplaces in Christ” (Eph. 1:3).
“Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenlyplaces” (Eph. 1:20). • “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenlyplaces in Christ Jesus” (Eph. 2:6).
The Impossibility • “If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance.”
Falling Away • “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition” (2 Thess. 2:3).
“Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness” (2 Pet. 3:17).
One Can Fall From Grace • “Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen fromgrace” (Gal. 5:4).
Saul • “And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him (Saul); and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them” (1 Sam. 10:10). • “Now the Spirit of Jehovah departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from Jehovah troubled him” (1 Sam. 16:14).
“Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme” (1 Tim. 1:20). • Judas Iscariot
Repentance • People who fall away don’t have to be rebaptized. They have to REPENT!
The Churches of Asia • Church of Ephesus: ”Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent” (Rev. 2:5).
Church at Pergamos: “Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth” (Rev. 2:16).
Church at Thyatira: Those who accepted the doctrine of Jezebel he says, “And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not” (Rev. 2:21).
1. By Apostasy • “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils” (1 Tim. 4:1).
2. Deny That Jesus Is The Christ • “And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world” (1 Jn. 4:3).
3. Denying The Word • “Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come” (Matt. 12:31, 32).
“And Put Him To An Open Shame” • “I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting” (Isa. 50:6).
For whatever reason, some people leave the faith not realizing that they are hurting Christ and making a mockery out of the faith once and for all delivered to the saints.
Does He still feel the nailsEvery time I fail?Does He hear the crowd cryCrucify, again? • Am I causing Him pain? Then I know I've got to changeI just can't bear the thoughtOf hurting Him.
