  1. Toilet Flush Tank

  2. Follow these steps to keep the flush tank clean STEP 1: Empty the tank first. To do so, find and shut off the water valve (the "tap" valve on the wall behind or near the base of the toilet). Then, pull the top off the tank to check the water level inside, then flush the toilet until it is entirely empty. This could take two or three flushes, depending on your flow rate. STEP 2: Examine the state of your tank. If you are merely concerned with removing surface grime and dirt, a little scrubbing should be enough. STEP 3: Spray the tank interior liberally with your choice disinfection cleaner while wearing rubber gloves along the walls and the bottom. If there are corrosive compounds that could react with metal, try to keep the spray away from metal parts. (Bleach, for example, is quite corrosive.) Check the manufacturer's recommended dwell time on the label. Allow the disinfectant to sit for 10 to 15 minutes in most cases.

  3. STEP 4: Clean all the tank's working parts. Instead of directly spraying them and dousing the metal pieces with a potentially corrosive cleaner, dilute it first. Using the diluted disinfectant, wipe off the ball float, flapper, and other toilet tank workings. STEP 5: Reconnect the water supply and let the tank fill. Tank tablets could be used in the toilet. Mildew, minerals, and pollutants can be kept to a minimum with these. Tank pills containing bleach should be avoided because bleach is known to damage metal.
