RECOVERY ORIENTED SYSTEM OF CARE Presented by: Flo Stein, Chief Community Policy LME and CABHA Regional Kick-Off Meeting
The North Carolina Recovery Oriented System of Care • This partnership defines our role in the emerging state health system “Behavioral health is essential to health” • We will demonstrate that prevention works, treatment is effective and that individuals recover from mental and substance use disorders LME and CABHA Regional Kick-Off Meeting
DHHS Responsibility • DMA, DMH, LMEs, and CABHAs have the unique responsibility to design the state’s behavioral health care system by placing focus on the preventable and treatable problems stemming from disease, trauma, inadequate access to appropriate care, and insufficient community and family supports. We are inviting you as CABHAs to join with us to develop a system of care for the prevention and treatment of mental and substance use disorders focused on recovery. Our goals for the individualswe serve: • A physically and emotionally healthy lifestyle (health). • A stable, safe and supportive place to live (home) • Meaningful daily activities such as a job, school, volunteerism, income and resources to participate in the society; (a purpose) and • Relationships and social networks that provide support, friendship love and hope (a community). DHHS cannot achieve its goals or mission alone. We will be depending on LME and CABHA leadership and a talented workforce. This means the provision of a continuum of services and supports to meet the unique needs across our counties that address a diverse population including youth, older adults and ethnic and racial minority groups in rural and urban settings with sensitivity to issues of gender, disability, culture language and lifestyle.
