Different parts of the course: Interactive Classes • IC (Interactive class): activities related to everyday topics (education,socializing, technologies…) – listening/reading comprehension, vocab… • Focus on oral skills!!! Participation! • Preparation to the tests (pronunciation, grammar…) • + self-study: present-day English, grammar, vocab/listening ‘Altissia’, pronunciation ‘Altissia’ – buy access online (www.altissia.com/ichec) or via ‘Wallangues’
Different parts of the course: Ex-cathedra course • Every two weeks – check full timetable ad valvas Weeks: 08/10; 22/10; 12/11; 26/11 and 10/12 Group 4: Thursday – 12a.m. – 1 p.m. – Amphi droit Group 11: Tuesday – 11a.m. – 12 a.m. – Duc 2 Group 23: Thursday – 10 a.m.- 11a.m. – Duc 2 • Listening comprehension + vocab • Compulsory – helpful – included in evaluation!!!
Different parts of the course:self-study (I) 1) GRAMMAR • Basic grammar revision – leaflet received in class • Excercises to be prepared at home throughout the first weeks of class • Partly corrected and dealt with in class – depending on your preparation/questions - Considered as a prerequisite: tested twice throughout the year – in case of failure: penalties! Cf. Evaluation
Self-study (II) 2) PRONUNCIATION AND INTONATION - Initiation in class: tools for self-study • Available on ‘www.altissia.eu’ • Three tests throughout the year. Cf. Evaluation • Prerequisite: 16/20 on each test – in case of failure: -1 penalty/ test
Self-study (III) 3) LISTENING COMPREHENSION AND VOCAB ‘ALTISSIA’ • step-by-step method (health, crime and justice…) • 3 levels - 2 tests throughout the year • November: basic and lower-intermediate levels: prerequisite 12/20 – in case of failure -2 penalty • January session: intermediate level: part of written evaluation
Self-study (IV) 4) PRESENT-DAY ENGLISH • Only self-study but integrated in IC-Classes/ complementary (short fake tests). • Explanations in ex-cath • On icheccampus: powerpoint, exercises, keys • → your responsibility!!! Tested twice throughout the year. Cf.Evaluation
Basic principles to follow • Attendance at IC and ex-cath is compulsory • If test while absent: zero! Except if justification • Before Easter→catch-up will be organized if possible (appointment for oral tests / retakes at end of the year for written tests) • After Easter NO catch-up score ‘0’ • Use emails to warn me/to make appointments
Evaluation: p.11 Prerequisites • Self-study tests (except Present-Day) penalties • Pronunciation: Altissia • three tests throughout the year • 16/20 otherwise -1 penalty • Vocab and listening comprehension:’Altissia’ • Basic and lower-intermediate levels: November • 12/20 otherwise -2 penalty • Grammar: two chances throughout the year - only retake what you failed (November and February) • 4/5 to pass each section • 18/20 all in all
Evaluation p.12 • Altissia: Listening comprehension and vocab – intermediate level • Present-Day (part 1 and 2) : 2 tests throughout the year • Subject matter IC + ex-cath: regular short tests in class + recap written test – end of each semester: different for each group so take note of everything seen in class! • BBC test / text summary/ File/Giving your opinion: 2nd semester • Permanent evaluation: participation in class – oral activities!!!!
Dates of tests: 1st Semester (p.6) - Week of 22/10: Pronunciation test 1 (IC) • Nov. 19 or 26: (8.00-10.00am) • Grammar test 1 • Altissia vocab/listening basic and lower-intermediate levels • Week of 05/11: Pronunciation test 2 (IC) • Week of 10/12: Pronunciation test 3 (IC) • January session: • Vocab recap IC + ex-cath 1st term • Altissia intermediate level • Present Day Part 1
