  6. Descriptive Passage • At night, Buck loved to lie near the fire and stare dreamilyinto the flames. Earlier scenes danced in his mind, though they were dim and distant. He remembered the judge’s big house and the sun-drenched hills the cement swimming tank, and Ysabel and Toots, the house dogs. He recalled the man in the red sweater and Curly’s death. He remembered his great fight with Spitz, and thought of the good things he had eaten or would like to eat. • Remembering what he did and wanted from his life.
