DE ANZA COLLEGE INSTRUCTIONAL PLANNING INTEGRATING COURSE ASSESSMENT AND THE PROGRAM REVIEW PROCESS AT THE COURSE LEVEL
Instructional Assessment Groups (IAG) Two main groups • General Education: includes all departments, divisions, programs* that lend to transfer, A.A., A.S. degrees; and certificates. • Vocational: includes all departments/programs that lend to A.A., A.S. degrees and certificates with a vocational emphasis *Subgroups within each of these IAG’s may be defined by current program review groupings. i.e. Basic skills may be a “unique subgroup” within general education.
Premises • All courses will be assessed on a agreed upon timeline • Assessment of a course SLO may simultaneously represent assessment of the ICC’s. • An assessment cycle is completed when all SLO’s for a course are assessed.
Instructional Program SLOs • The “Program SLO’s” for the General Education Assessment Group are the ICCs. • The “Program SLO’s” for the Vocational groups are the ICCs and the outcomes expected from their respective outside agencies.
Instructional Planning for all IAG’s Groups will: • Create SLO’s • Assess course and program SLO’s • Evaluate findings (Reflect) • Implement changes in the classroom (Enhance) • Summarize findings and identify/request resource needs (Annual program review update)

TO DO’s to make the timeline work • March 1, 2010 Division Council approves final Program Review Update Document • Division Liaisons in place and trained by April 30, 2010 • Define Institutional Assessment groups end of Winter Quarter, 2010
6-year Assessment Cycle 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 Proposal one – Cabrillo model COURSE SLOAC COURSE SLOAC PROGRAM SLOAC PROGRAM SLOAC Program Review INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN Proposal two -- Themed Assessments ICC one ICC two ICC three Program Review ICC four ICC five INSTRUCTIONAL Plan
proposal one • Faculty concentrate their efforts in completing SLOAC for __ % of their courses for two years of the cycle. • Faculty concentrate their efforts in completing SLOAC for __% of their courses with emphasis on __ (all?) ICC’s that relate to a course • Faculty create a one page summary an instructional plan and program review.
Proposal two • Every year one ICC stands as a theme for the college. SLOACs for all courses that have an SLO that relate to the theme are conducted. • All departments who conduct Program reviews should plan to assess all of their course SLO’s during the five year cycle. • During a 5 year cycle all courses should have completed SLOAC’s for all courses.
Goals • Discuss program assessment plans by the end of Winter Quarter in the Academic Senate. • Invite interested persons to discuss “sub-groupings” within IAG’s. • Set standard assessment format for data analysis--I.e. survey monkey, catalyst, scantron
