  1. IMPORTANT!!!!! • If you will give me every bit of your attention these next 6 days and do the work I ask you to, you will be prepared for the EOC. You can decide now that it is worth the effort, no matter what you have done the last 6 6weeks. • So “put on your thinking caps” 

  2. EOC review Day 1 • Biochemistry and scientific method • Handout supplement material for scientific method, microscope and graphs • Pass out spark charts • Have them highlight what I have highlighted on my key – these are areas to revisit • Take down the following notes, study them and use them to help answer the practice questions

  3. Monomer- is a smaller unit • Polymer – is the larger unit made of a bunch of smaller units. • Monomer- just one bead • Polymer- two or more beads placed on a string to make a bracelet. • Remember CHO, CHO, CHON, CHONP

  4. Nucleotide structure • Sugar • Phosphate • Nitrogen base

  5. Enzymes are proteins that speed up a chemical reaction by lowering the activation energy • Endergonic- energy is released or lost • Exergonic- energy absorbed or used

  6. Independent variable- variable changed on purpose, the one manipulated – the if part of the hypothesis • Dependent variable- variable that changes in response, the one measured- the then part of the hypothesis • Eating better will make me healthier. • Change to if, then… If I eat better, then I will be healthier. • Independent: eat better • Dependent: amount of health

  16. 10 . Certain types of biomolecules are crucial to a variety of life processes and body structures. One of these types of molecules are proteins, which are a. composed of building blocks called amino acids b. insoluble in water and are used by the body for energy storage and insulation c. complex molecules that store genetic information d. organic compounds used by cells to store and release energy

  17. 11. Which of the following statements about enzymes is true? a. Amylase, a digestive enzyme found in saliva, helps break down food molecules. b. Enzymes do not play a role in metabolic processes of the body. c. Enzymes are chemically altered during reactions in which they are involved. d. Enzymes always slow the rate at which a chemical reaction occurs.
