  5. Construction • 36,000 workers, 6,000 horses and 50 years to complete • Cost is unknown because Louis XIV burnt all records so no one would know how much money he spent

  6. Main Entrance

  7. Size • 54,000 square feet !!!! • 500 meters long or equal to 5 football fields • 2000 windows, 1250 fire places, 67 staircases • 700 rooms that could house more than 5000 people

  8. Fountains • 1400 fountains at the time of Louis XIV • Low water pressure issues

  9. Hall of Mirrors

  10. Most Famous Hall • Right at 100 meters long • 17 huge mirrors • At the time of construction, mirrors were more expensive and precious than diamonds

  13. Contents • Originally had more than 6000 paintings, 2000 sculptures • Louis XIV even had a “closet” for 500 of his whigs
