Classification of Animals. Animals. Animals are spilt into two major groups: Vertebrates Invertebrates. Vertebrates. These are animals with a backbone. There are five main Classes of vertebrates: Amphibians Birds Fish Mammals Reptiles. Fish – Pisces Slimy scales

  2. Animals • Animals are spilt into two major groups: • Vertebrates • Invertebrates

  3. Vertebrates • These are animals with a backbone. • There are five main Classes of vertebrates: • Amphibians • Birds • Fish • Mammals • Reptiles

  4. Fish – Pisces • Slimy scales • Reproduce – eggs, without shells, in water • Cold Blooded

  5. Amphibians (Class) • Moist skin • Cold Blooded • Reproduce – eggs without shells, in water

  6. Reptiles (Class) • Cold blooded • Reproduction- eggs hard and leathery shells on land • Skin – hard dry scales

  7. Birds – Aves (Class) • Feathers • Lay eggs with hard shells on land

  8. Mammals (class • Warm blooded • Hair/Fur • Reproduction - Birth live young • Mammary glands (young fed milk)

  9. Invertebrates • These are animals without a backbone • There are seven main Phyla of invertebrates • Flatworms • Roundworms • Annelids • Jelly Fish • Echinoderms • Molluscs • Arthropods
