Aims of the Training Course To enable field practitioners to improve the quality of water related responses in emergency contexts - with a particular focus on large displacements and longer term emergencies It aims to improve knowledge on: • Good practice & minimum standards • Relevance of responses for different stages and contexts • Linkages – WASH, cross-cutting, software / hardware, Cluster
The Cluster Approach • When:Set up after the Humanitarian Reform review of 2005 • Why:To improve the effectiveness of humanitarian responses • How: Through the creation of clusters or partnerships in all sectors & areas
The Cluster Approach • Building strong partnerships in the key areas of humanitarian work will make responses: • More effective use of resources responding to the most urgent needs / gaps • Better structured– ensuring capacity in all sectors • Improving standards of response • More professional – coordinated responses through sector partnerships • More accountable – with predictable leadership
