  1. Comparison between neutron data from HEND and gamma-ray data from GRS S. Charyshnikov, M. Litvak, V. Grinkov, A. Kozyrev, A. Sanin I. Mitrofanov, V. Tret’yakov Institute for Space Research

  2. SCHEME Correlation between epithermal and fast neutron flux and intensity of induced activity lines (Mg-1369, Ti-1381) as markers of neutron flux. Correlation between epithermal and fast neutron flux and natural radioactivity lines (K-1461). Correlation between epithermal and fast neutron flux and inelastic scatter gamma-ray lines (Si-1779).

  3. SOURCE DATA • Take GRS spectra of surface of Mars for pixels 10x10 degree for time period: 08.06.2002 00:00:00 UTC  09.02.2003 13:00:00 UTC

  4. SOURCE DATA • Pick lines of Mg-1369, Ti-1381, K-1461, Si-1779 out spectra.

  5. SOURCE DATA • Subtract background from each selected line • Calculate intensity of these lines

  6. SOURCE DATA • Make epithermal and fast neutron flux maps for the same time interval: 08.06.2002 00:00:00 UTC  09.02.2003 13:00:00 UTC

  7. Make correlation between neutron flux data and gamma-ray data

  8. Make correlation between neutron flux data and gamma-ray data

  9. Make correlation between neutron flux data and gamma-ray data

  10. Make correlation between neutron flux data and gamma-ray data

  11. Make correlation between neutron flux data and gamma-ray data

  12. Make correlation between neutron flux data and gamma-ray data

  13. Make correlation between neutron flux data and gamma-ray data

  14. Make correlation between neutron flux data and gamma-ray data

  15. R E S U M E • Line Si-1779 has better correlation with flux of fast neutrons. • Line K-1461 has good correlation with flux of fast neutrons and has almost no correlation with flux of epithermal neutrons. • Lines Mg-1369 and Ti-1381 have good correlation with together fluxes of epithermal and fast neutrons, Mg-1369 correlate better with flux of fast neutrons, but Ti-1381 correlate better with flux of epithermal neutrons.
