3. Council Review Project In order to ensure the effectiveness of councils, the Council Vice Presidents (CVP) undertook a review of council organization and activities.

Ensure that councils are meeting the needs of ASIS members and that they are consistent with current security industry trends.
5. Council Review Project The first step was a survey of each council during the first quarter of 2009 by their respective CVP. An interview was conducted with each Council chair and/or a representative group of council members.
6. Council Review Project Survey Results Majority of councils reported that composition and activities were appropriate.
Half thought they would benefit from new organizational approaches.
Five council chairs felt that all aspects of their industry or subject matter were represented, the balance thought some areas were not being adequately represented.
7. Council Review ProjectSurvey Results 4. There was general agreement that all councils provide expertise to a wide audience.
All but two council chairs believed that their councils were providing value to members.
Additional assistance needs for councils included administrative support and publicity. Some raised the funding issue.

Council Review ProjectSurvey Results Specific segments not represented by a council include: cyber security, fast food and consumer food protection, homeland security, houses or worship, insurance and open source intelligence, legislative issues, security training, stadium and mall protection, and telecommunications security.

9. A majority of councils suggested more networking opportunities, including restoration of the mid-year leadership meeting.

Council chairs determine whether to more aggressively seek more diverse members.
CVPs will identify partnering opportunities outside ASIS with organizations with the same or similar interests.

CVPs will ensure that councils are aware of available limited funding for their activities and how to obtain it.
14. Council Review Project It is the belief of the CVPs that councils provide invaluable support for the goals and objectives of ASIS. The results of this project will ensure that their efforts are maximized and appropriately focused.
