  2. The State of Qatar Location:Qatar is a peninsula located halfway down the west coast of the Arabian Gulf. Land Area:The total land area of Qatar is approximately 11,521 square kilometers.Population: 1,448,446  of which 30% are Qatari. Capital City:Doha

  3. The State of Qatar Government: Constitutional Authorities: “The people are the source of power, and they shall exercise the same in accordance with the provisions of the constitution. The system of government is based on the separation and collaboration of powers.The legislative authority is vested in the Advisory Council, while the executive authority shall be vested in the Emir assisted by the Council of Ministers as specified by the constitution.”

  4. The State of Qatar A Nation With Big Dreams The economy of Qatar depends on Oil and Gas production. Qatar has the third largest reserve of Gas in the world. The country is witnessing economic boom and Doha is turning into a modern city with huge construction projects. The leadership of the country is focusing on Education sector. Qatar hosts more than ten reputable universities from around the world. The schooling system is undergoing a thorough modernization process and students are given state of the art education opportunities.

  5. Education in Qatar Supreme Education Council • Established by Emiri decree in November 2002, the Supreme Education Council (SEC) is the organization responsible for determining education policy in Qatar. • The SEC plays an integral role in the education reform effort, Education for a New Era.

  6. The SEC: its role, mission and vision for the future SEC Structure The Education Institute: Oversees and supports all of the Independent Schools. The Evaluation Institute: Develops and conducts testing of students, monitors student learning and also evaluates school performance. The Higher Education Institute: Advises students about career options and opportunities for higher education in Qatar and abroad, and administers scholarships and grants.

The SEC: its role, mission and vision for the future What are Independent Schools? • The Independent Schools are the heart of Education for a New Era. • Operating under internationally benchmarked curriculum standards, the Independent Schools are autonomous, government-funded schools that offer new models of curriculum design, teaching methods and collaboration. • Students who attend Independent Schools are learning how to be the critical, creative thinkers that the global economy demands.

Autonomy: Schools and teachers can be innovative in their approach to meeting the needs of individual students (while acting within a framework of international curriculum standards). Accountability: An objective and transparent assessment system holds school leaders, teachers and parents responsible for the success of students. Variety: Different kinds of schools and instructional programs are encouraged. Choice: Parents can select the school that best meets their children's needs.

The SEC: its role, mission and vision for the future What is the SEC’s vision for the future? • Building a modern, world-class education system that preserves local values while incorporating best practices from around the world is essential to Qatar’s vision of sustained growth and a prosperous future for its citizens. • A diversified economy, democratic processes, and learners that have the skills and knowledge required to thrive are all necessary for success in a global environment.

E-EDUCATION GOALS • Insure strategic partnerships with education stakeholders by advising on the effective use of ICT in education. • Create an effective and safe innovative technology-rich learning environment in schools. • To have developed a capable and confident education and training workforce that is skilled in the effective integration of technology in education. • Encourage and support research on and evaluation of the impact of ICT in the schools.

  13. KNET KNET is a portal for an educational learning system that provides learning and instructional tools to improve content delivery, facilitate resource accessibility, enhance communication and expedite administrative tasks.

KNET - STATUS • All main features of KNET phase II are available, • KNET public portal went life, • 37 schools, 40 000 of users, • Pedagogical training, coaching, mentoring and remote second line of support, • Sustainability and capability building: 160 teacher champions trained across the country!

  16. Safe and secure, anytime anywhere access • KNET have taken education in Qatar beyond the classroom walls. Class material and coursework can be accessed ‘anytime, anywhere’ and students can communicate and collaborate in a safe online environment.

The Office of Communications : Mission The Office of Communications : Mission The Office of Communications (OC) builds public understanding, support and acceptance of Education for a New Era through effective communications policies and outreach strategies. It works to raise local, regional and international awareness and encourages community engagement and stakeholder participation by coordinating, directing, and implementing appropriate communications plans.

The Office of Communications : Role Office of Communications Major Roles and Responsibility: Develop and implement communications policies, strategies and plans for the SEC and its Institutes to help them realize their goals Develop and maintain positive working relationships with the media to ensure accurate and consistent coverage of the SEC and its entities Create awareness of SEC principles, objectives and programs to deepen understanding and improve trust and support.
