Project descriptionPilot study and motivation 1 Project description • Student project Spring 2010 • Survey of mobile apps for universities • Analysis of demand • Development of a first iOS prototype • Key-findings: • High demand for an university app • Demand for administrative and supportive services • Course information, lecture material, room booking, campus map. • Less demand for interactive services like buddy finders, chats, aso. Pilot study* Motivation • Increasing number of smart phone users • Most administrative services are already available, but not for mobile dev. • Obvious demand for mobile access • Many individual solutions • Many different devices • Need for action *SWITCH Journal October 2010, p. 43-44

Goals and BenefitsWhat we want to achive. 2 Goals and Benefits • Comprehensive technology assessment and demand analysis • Concept development to provide supportive IT service on mobile dev. • Useable on different mobile devices • Useable with different back-end interfaces • Customizable (front-end, functionality, back-end) and generic • Development of a first prototype covering two or three use-cases • Static content • Dynamic content • Field test to gain feedback and (im)prove the concept Goals Benefits • Development of a • proved, • standardized, • and easy customizable concept. • Deployable solution for different educational institutes • Easy extension and adaption of use-cases, sustainable usage • Target group: students and university staff
