  2. What we said we value… • High level of education for all students • Small class size • Quality staff • Curriculum options • Meeting all students’ needs

Respect for community “pocketbooks” • Extra-curricular activities, i.e. music, fine arts, vocational education, and athletics • Opportunities for students to acquire and enhance their social skills • Doing what is good for the “whole”, but sensitive to the individual’s needs • Positive relationships

  4. The Facts • Mohawk schools has not passed new operating money since 1995. • Money received from the State has dropped from 63% to 54% since 1995. • Revenue from business taxes have decreased by 37% since 1995 and will eventually be eliminated.

  6. No new money since 1995! • A 1% income tax was approved in 1995. • In 1996, 4.04 mills of property tax was eliminated. • In 1997, 5.9 mills of property tax was eliminated. Bottom line:Mohawk has budgeted wisely for the past twelve years.

  8. What we have done… Cut$1,078,182 from the budget over the last 3 years: • Staff reductions • Attrition • Salary concessions • Implementing activity fees

  9. Implemented Activity Fee • $88,000 generated this year alone for student activities • $250 per high student • $150 per junior high student Our cost for student activities this year is $273,982

  10. Since the levy failed in November, next school year we will… • Eliminate 5 teaching positions • Eliminate 9 supplemental positions • Activity fees will increase to $300 per high school student and $200 per junior high student
