Define Photography: • Greek: photos (light) and graphein (to draw) • First used by scientist Sir John F.W. Herschel (1839) • Method of recording images by the action of light, or related radiation on a sensitive material.
Camera Obscura • Invented by Alhazen (Ibn Al-Haytham) around 1000 AD. • The first name was pinhole camera. • Pictures were upside down.
The First Photograph Joseph NicephoreNiepce: “View from the Window at Le Gras” in 1827 or 1828
The Daguerreotype • Louis Daguerre introduced the daguerreotype process on August 1839. - Formed a partnership with Joseph Niepce to Improve upon the photography.
Gelatin Emulsion • A photographic process in which gelatin is used as the dispersing vehicle for light-sensitive salts.
Action Photograph and Muybridge • Founded by Eadweard Muybridge. • Known as ‘Father of Motion Picture’.
Zoetrope • Invented by William George Horner in 1834. • Consisted of a drum containing a set of still images, that was turned in a circular fashion in order to create moving images.
Kodak • George Eastman was an avid photographer and founder of Eastman Kodak Company. • It was founded in 1888.
Digital Photography • The basic principle of photography is a camera sees an object because of the light which is reflected off it and into the camera’s lens. The lens of the camera is used to channel this light onto a plane, where it can be recorded and a photo created by one way or the other.
