  1. The Seaside ice cream What do you think of when you think about the seaside? building sandcastles swimming sitting on the beach fish & chips

  2. Where Is Blackpool? Blackpool is in the North West of England, in the county of Lancashire.

  3. Why Is Blackpool Popular? It has a large, sandy beach. Blackpool is one of the UK’s most popular holiday destinations. Over 10 million people visit each year. Blackpool has many tourist attractions, such as the Blackpool Tower and Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

  4. Blackpool in the Past Blackpool first became popular as a place to go on holiday over 100 years ago. All the factories in the town used to close for a week. This meant all the workers could enjoy their holiday at the same time.

  5. Blackpool Piers Blackpool has three piers. Click on each picture to find out more. North Pier is the oldest of the piers. It has shops, cafés, a carousel and a theatre. South Pier has lots of exciting rides, such as a log flume and a ghost train. Central Pier has a big wheel and other fairground rides. It has cafés, fish and chip shops and a large arcade.   6. Blackpool Illuminations One of Blackpool’s most famous landmarks is Blackpool Tower. It opened in 1894. Blackpool Tower was inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. Blackpool Tower has a famous dance hall called Blackpool Tower Ballroom. It also has a circus, an aquarium and a soft play area.

  7. Blackpool Pleasure Beach Another place that tourists like to visit is Blackpool Pleasure Beach. This is a large theme park with lots of exciting rides.   8. Blackpool Illuminations Each year, from August to November, lots of Blackpool is lit up in a special event called the Illuminations. They first happened in 1879 with just eight lamps. In those days, very few places had electricity, so it was exciting for people to see. Today, the lights are six miles long and use over a million lightbulbs!

  9. Blackpool Click on the pictures to find out about other things connected to Blackpool. Donkey rides are a popular thing to do on the beach. Trams can take you all around Blackpool. People often buy sticks of rock at Blackpool. It even has a factory where you can watch the sick of rock being made.
