Year 5 Day Trip to France 3rd March 2017 10th March 2017
Travelling to France • We are able to travel to France for our school trip and have authorisation from Bromley Evolve, who risk assess all school trips in Bromley. We also follow the guidelines from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. We will notify you if there are any changes or if the trip is unable to take place. • At present, France is on high alert regarding terrorism and the French Government have extended their national state of emergency until January 2017. • More information can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/france
Early Morning • Leave school at 07.00 on our lovely coach. • Drive to Folkestone to the Eurotunnel Terminal. • 35 minute crossing to Calais. The children will remain on the coach. • We will not be moving around the train.
Lunch and Activities • Arrive at Calais terminal at 10:55 (we lose an hour on arrival in France) • Drive to Boulogne to have lunch in the park (packed lunch). • Visit Nausicaa Sea Life Centre in Boulogne (12:00) – the children will look around the centre and afterwards will be able to purchase a souvenir from the shop.
Visit Boulogne The children will get the chance to explore the town and the different types of shops. They will get the chance to speak French and buy something from the local shops. (14:00)
Late Afternoon Visit to Boulangerie Wierre Effroy (16:00). This is a traditional family-owned bakery where the children will be able to watch a baker at work in the original part of the bakery and visit the modern part of the bakery to make croissants. They will also get a croissant and pain au chocolat to take away with them.
Tea Time! At this time, (17:30) we will definitely be getting hungry after seeing all those croissants! This is when we head off to Calais to have tea.
Homeward Bound! • Check in at the Eurotunnel Terminal, Calais – 19:50. • Arrive back in the UK at 20:25 (we gain an hour on our return). • Arrive back at school after a fun filled day – 22:30
General Information • Spending money - no more than 25 Euros • No mobile phones • No electronic devices • We will contact school throughout the day to keep you updated via text • We will have a school mobile with us so we can contact you easily if we need to • Children can take cameras however they will be responsible for them • Children will be wearing their school uniform • Children will need to bring a packed lunch • There will be spare bottled water for the children on the coach

General Information Cost = £58 per child A letter will be sent out tomorrow with exact details of payment and other relevant information. • Same (police checked) drivers stay with us all through the trip. • Coach has seat belts. It also has a toilet for emergency use only. • We will be staying on the coach whilst in the Eurotunnel. • Comprehensive travel insurance. • Children will supervised at all times whilst on the trip.
General Information Your child will need their own EHIC – European Health Card. You will need to apply online. They will then send you a card within 10 days. The information about the website will be on the letter going home tomorrow. Please do this now, before Christmas. Any child who doesn’t have a card will be unable to travel on the trip. The website to apply for an EHIC is: www.gov.uk/european-health-insurance-card If you require help in applying for this card, we are happy to help. You will need to bring your National Insurance Number or NHS number with you.
General Information • Passports - all children who have their own passport will be using them to travel to France. (Please ensure it is valid for our time of travel). You will need to complete a Collective Passport form if your child does NOT have their own passport. If your child was born outside the UK or has a foreign passport please see me after the meeting. They will still be able to travel. • Consent form/Photograph permission for the trip and all the activities included. • Medical form to advise us of any medication your child may require. • Food allergy form so that we can ensure the children are not exposed to foods which may cause allergies.
