2. Folk og klima Jo flere mennesker på kloden, desto mere udslip af CO2, og så bliver klimaforandringerne endnu værre. Dette scenario bygger først og fremmest på, at befolkningstilvæksten sker i de fattige og underudviklede lande, og når de engang bliver rigere, vil disse landes befolkninger også have et køleskab, en bil og andre CO2-forurenende velfærdsgoder. 3. Jordens befolkningstal Hvert år stiger Jordens befolkningstal med omkring 80 millioner. Hvert år fødes der flere end der dør. I dag lever der ca. 6,8 milliarder mennesker på Jorden. Omkring år 2040 vil dette tal være nået op på ca. 9 milliarder. For få år siden blev der årligt født omkring 167 millioner, mens der døde ca. 57 millioner. Antallet nyfødte om året synes nu at have stabiliseret sig på 134 millioner. Menu

4. Kondomer – den billigste klimaløsning? Det har længe været kendt, at adgang til prævention koblet med uddannelse af kvinder og anden ligestillingspolitik fører til større sundhed, mindre overbefolkning og begrænsning af fattigdom. Men nye beregninger viser, at prævention også kan betale sig, når det handler om at begrænse den globale opvarmning. Bruger man 36 kroner på metoder til familieplanlægning, sparer man et ton CO2. Skal man spare den samme mængde ved hjælp af grønne energiteknologier, vil det koste 164 kroner. Ved en målrettet satsning på familieplanlægning vil man ifølge disse beregninger kunne nedbringe den globale CO2-udledning i perioden 2010 og 2015 svarende til, hvad USA udleder på 6 år. Menu

5. Kondomer – den billigste klimaløsning? Derfor mener bl.a. FN, at frivillig familieplanlægning skal højere op på dagsordenen i de internationale klimaforhandlinger. Men understreger samtidig, at prævention ikke kan løse hele klimaproblemet. De rige lande skal i stort omfang begrænse deres udledning af CO2. Flere lande i såvel den muslimske som den katolske verden er indædte modstandere af det, der i FN-sprog kaldes familieplanlægning. Kondomer, p-piller og abort er fyord. Menu

This scenario is based primarily on the fact that population growth occurs in poor and undeveloped countries, and once they get richer, their populations will also have refrigerators, cars and other CO2-emitting appliances. 8. Condoms, the cheapest solution ? It has long been known that access to contraception coupled with education of women and other equality policy initiatives lead to better health, less overpopulation and limitation of poverty. But new calculations show that contraception is also worth considering when it comes to limiting global warming. For every 6,60 dollars spent on family planning methods, the world is saved one ton of CO2. Should we save the same amount by means of green energy technologies, it will cost 30 dollars. With a targeted family planning, according to these calculations, we could reduce global CO2 emissions between 2010 and 2015 equivalent to what the U.S. emits in 6 years. Menu

9. Condoms, the cheapest solution ? Therefore UN believes that voluntary family planning should be higher up the agenda of international climate negotiations. But at the same time, they underline that contraception can not solve the whole climate problem. The rich countries should also reduce their CO2 emissions. Several countries in both the Muslim as the Catholic world is violently opposed to what, in UN language is called family planning. Condoms, birth control pills and abortion is not on there agenda.
