  2. ES 50: Intro to Env Resource Mgmt & Pollution Prevention An intro to the ERM&P2 major, surveying the focus areas of: ERM: Efficient & sustainable use of our natural resources P2: Pollution control & pollution prevention.

  3. ES 6: Intro To Environmental Law An introduction to env law & regulation in the U.S. & California, covering: • Air Quality • Natural Resource Protection/Mgmt • Water Quality • Land Use Planning • Solid & Hazardous Waste Mgmt • Global Warming & Energy Policy • Hazardous Materials Mgmt

  4. ES 56: Env Health & Env Justice Env Health: Examining effects that env hazards (air & water pollution, industrial & hazardous wastes, food & water-borne diseases, pesticides & other toxic chemical-containing products, including consumer products) have on human health. Env Justice: Addressing disproportionate “environmental burdens” (i.e., pollution & waste) borne by poor, largely-minority communities.

  5. Air Water Land ES 61A: ERM&P2: Air, Water & Land Examines the legal, technical & practical management aspects involved in protecting & sustainably using/managing our fundamental air, water & land resources.

  7. ES 62A: Env Management Systems (EMS) & Env Performance Metrics Env Mgmt Systems: Systematic approaches (ISO 14001, EMAS, etc.) used to achieve both regulatory compliance & “beyond compliance” env improvement within businesses & organizations Env Performance Metrics: Various measurements of env performance & associated reporting of such metrics.

  8. ES 62B: CEQA & Env Impacts Reports (EIRs) CEQA: California Environmental Quality Act EIRs: Used to evaluate, potentially mitigate & publicly disclose the env effects of significant public projects as req’d by CEQA.

  9. ES 62C: Env Site Assessments (ESAs) ESAs: Used to assess (prior to their sale or redevelopment/reuse) industrial, commercial & “brownfield” sites for env contamination.

  10. ES 62D: Industrial Ecology & Sustainable Design Principles Industrial Ecology: Applying the lessons of nature to industrial processes, products/services & systems. Sustainable Design: Based on a combination of environmental, economic & social considerations.
