Purpose of Government This Government Economic Strategy sets out how we will support businesses and individuals and how, together, we can deliver the following Purpose: • to focus the Government and public services on creating a more successful country, with opportunities for all of Scotland to flourish, through increasing sustainable economic growth.
Economic situation Government activity focused on: • Helping individuals cope • Supporting (local) businesses • Preparing for recovery
National outcomes • We are better educated, more skilled and more successful… • Our young people are successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens • Our children have the best start in life and are ready to succeed • We have improved the life chances for children, young people and families at risk
We have tackled the significant inequalities in Scottish society We have strong, resilient supportive communities where people take responsibility for their own actions and how they affect others Our public services are high quality, continually improving, efficient and responsive to local people’s needs etc National Outcomes
We are better educated, more skilled and more successful… Main Strategy: Skills for Scotland • leaver destinations – productivity – reduced dependency • more choices and chances for those that need them • Desire for all young people to stay in learning after 16 • 16+ Learning Choices, a universal model, designed to facilitate senior phase entitlement
Our young people are successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens Main Strategy: Curriculum for Excellence • Values based – wisdom justice compassion integrity • Enabling framework not detailed prescription • Enhanced professionalism -> reduced dependency • Higher standards of attainmentand wider achievement • Skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work • Entitlements • For all learners of all ages in all learning environments

Builds from universal services and • Is based on principles and values which run through all policies and practice and put the child at the centre • supports a practice model to deliver improved outcomes for all children as well as policy priorities It requires: • One approach – shared understanding/common language/ • ONE PLANNING PROCESS – ONE PLAN • Specific requirements – eg LAC review dates or CSP format
