  2. Learning Goals • I understand the rules for alphabetizing words. • I can put a list of words in alphabetical order. • I can find books in the media center using the rules for alphabetizing words.

  3. We can put words in a special order called alphabetical order. • The first letter of the word is used to tell where the word would appear in ABC order.

  4. Look at these words: Box Car Apple The word apple would come first in ABC order because A comes before B or C in the alphabet.

  5. These words are in ABC order • Bat • House • Man • Stop • Zebra

  6. Put these words in ABC order Cat Ape Monkey Banana House 1. 2. 3. 4. 5

  7. What about words that begin with the same letter? • If two words begin with the same letter, move to the second letter to see which comes first.

  8. These words are in ABC order Fan Fender Fish Flip

  9. Let’s try this one: • Dog 1. • Duck 2. • Dirt 3. • Deck 4.

  10. What about words that have the same first two letters? • If the words have the same two beginning letters, look at the third letter to determine which order to put the words in.
