  2. Convergence in the music industry Before we start today, what do you think convergence in the music industry involves? Start through considering the meaning of convergence from last year: can you think of any examples?

  4. Debate in reflection • The internet has been a great thing for the music industry… Versus • The internet has been a terrible thing for the music industry… Groups to discuss and prepare: 10 minutes

  5. Quiz time! It is now time to hold a quiz to assess your knowledge. You will do this in teams and we will see how much ‘money’ you can make. You might have to take an educated guess in some cases but that doesn’t matter – the more info you have the better!

In pairs • PERSON A: Read your paper from British Music Rights – an organisation concerned with the rights of composers, songwriters and music publishers. • Summarise the key information in note form – you will be required to share this with your partner in detail when we will do a sage and scribe. • PERSON B: watch this clip (scan it) and do the same. You might need headphones here! 10 minutes

  7. Sage and Scribe • Those of you who have read Paper 1, explain what you have learned to your partner, who must listen and take notes. • Now repeat the process the other way. 10 minutes

  8. Media in the Online Age In pairs Choose one question to answer: • Q8 What difference has the internet made to media production and consumption? Refer to at least two media sectors in your answer. [50] • Q9 How important to change in the media is the idea of convergence? Refer to at least two media in your answer. [50] In 4s, you will plan a response to this together. Two of you will focus on music and two of you will focus on gaming. Use the card provided to plan your response in your group in any way you wish. You will then ‘give-one get-one’ with another group to share ideas
