Section 05 About Risk Management
What is the level of Risk? • What is the Likelihood of an event? • How severe will the consequences be? What are the Hazards? Implement Controls Eliminate Risk Yes Yes Can the Risk be reduced? Can the Risk be eliminated? Is the level of Risk Acceptable? No Yes No No Do not Start Start/Continue Work The Process
Moderate Risk Rating • Risk rating is determined by the intersection of Likelihood and Consequence coordinates Legend
Residual Risk Residual Risk • Is the remaining level of risk after controls have been selected • If the residual risk level remains at moderate, high or extreme, activity cannot commence, review selection of controls • Only When the residual risk level is lowcan activity commence Select Controls that will reduce the Likelihood and/or Consequence X
Last line of Defence Hierarchy of Controls • Hierarchy of Controls, in order of precedence: • Eliminate the Hazard • Substitute with a less hazardous material, process or equipment • Redesign equipment or work process • Isolate the hazard • Introduce administrative controls; then • Use appropriate personal protective equipment PPE Initial the Induction Check Sheet
Section 06 Work Method Statements
Clause 7.4 Work Method Statements (JSEA) • A Work Method Statement (WMS) will be prepared where there is a risk of bodily harm, damage to plant or equipment. • The task specific WMS will examine the safety needs and requirements in a pro-active manner. • Depending on the complexity of a particular WMS the relevant people selected from engineering, production, safety department and the work crew may also be involved to develop it. • All workers assigned to the task will review and sign onto the WMS prior to starting the work.
