How To Clean Windows To Get A Streak-Free Glass Windows and glass and shine and sparkle with the right cleaning. Not only can you see clearly, but it will also let in enough light and give an illusion of a larger space. A glass cleaner is made to cut through grime, dirt, grease and smudges on glass surfaces. Windows can be washed in the following steps: Step 1: Prepping the cleaner. Use a bucket of warm water and add a dollop of dishwashing liquid to clean your windows. You can also use vinegar, borax or cornstarch to clean too. Mix equal parts vinegar and water to make the cleaner or mix 2 tablespoons of Borax with 3 cups of water. Another way is to mix lemon juice with 2 cups of warm water and 1 tablespoon cornstarch. A quarter cup of denatured alcohol with a quart of any cleaner will ensure that the solution doesn’t freeze when cleaning during cold weather. Step 2: Soak the windows. Use a handheld sponge or a strip applicator to submerge in the cleaning liquid and apply to the windows. Step 3: Material to clean. To clean windows, do not use paper towels or a lint cloth. These materials move dirt around and can create streaks. This also puts a static charge on windows and attracts more dirt. Instead, go for a squeegee. For a single-pane window move the squeegee from top left downward and move it in an “S” pattern, while wiping the blade clean to remove residues. For a multi-pane window, move the squeegee from left to right and then from top to bottom. Use a brush to remove dirt from corners. Step 4: Dry and polish. Dry the window sill and frame with a rag. Also, dry and polish the glass with a lint free cloth for a flawless look. You can use newspapers, wrung-dry chamois and coffee filters to polish glass too. Equipment and items needed for window cleaning. To start off window cleaning you must have good equipment. Here is a list of what you might need for cleaning.
