  6. PROFILE OF VENETE KLEIN Venete Klein is a seasoned board member and serves on the boards of Reserve Bank of South Africa, PG Group Holdings, Calgro M3 Holdings Ltd and DB Schenker. She spent most of 2009 & 2010 travelling with the Presidency, in order to conclude the BRICS transaction, with Brazil, Russia, India and China. Venete is a Chartered Director (CD)SA, and until recently served as the Chairperson of the Institute of Directors of South Africa (IoDSA). She is considered to be a financial powerhouse, humanitarian, mother and bridge-builder all rolled up into one rather formidable package. She is a role model to women all over the world. She is best known to have a leadership style that combines compassion with big business. Although small in stature, her passion for creating business with heart is larger-than-life. She retired from ABSA in December 2010, having successfully led the Retail Bank for 5 years, where she was responsible for 25 000 staff and 11m customers. As Executive Director of Absa Retail Bank, her portfolio included Absa Africa. She went on to Ecobank where she was responsible for their Retail & Business Bank. She was based in Nigeria at that time. She is well renowned for her contribution in shaping the South African Financial Services Sector, which she served for 30 plus years, proven by her recent appointment to the South African Reserve Bank Board. She was named Business Woman of the Year in 2009. She is a graduate of Harvard and studied at 3 of the top 5 Universities in the world. She is an accomplished speaker on local and international circuits on a broad range of topics. Today she runs a successful Management Consultancy - Kleininc. She is happily married to Dr Harold Klein, a practicing Civil Engineer, and is the mother of 2 sons, with 2 beautiful grandchildren, Kendall 8 and Katelyn 3 years. She considers her Biggest Achievement to be – an illustrious Banking career coupled with a well-balanced family life. She considers her Biggest Blessing in life to be – her Mother Margaret who at the tender age of 90 still lives with her.

PROFILE MS WRENELE STANDER A rare example of an operational leader who has made the transition into a senior communications role, Wrenelle Stander served as managing director of South Africa’s Sasol Gas for almost four years, leading a complex three-year process to transition 314 natural gas customers from one pricing dispensation to another. Now SVP of public affairs, Stander also serves as director on a number of subsidiary boards within Sasol.Before joining Sasol, Stander served in various capacities within the public sector including the position of deputy CEO of the South African Civil Aviation Authority, and the MD of the Air Traffic and Navigation Services Company amongst others. She started her career in the minerals and energy NGO sector where, amongst others, she was involved in positioning the Minerals and Energy Policy Centre to be less dependent on donor funding, established the Minerals and Energy Training Institute (MEETI), and was a contributor to the Energy Policy White Paper.

  15. PROFILE OF TEMBELA KULU Eastern Cape-born TembelaKulu is the Executive Director of Redbox Advertising and the former Provincial Manager of PRASARAIL. She is a persevering and enduring individual who started her long and distinguished career as a training manager at Kohler Flexible Packaging in 1992.   Before serving as a Wesgro board member and on the Cape Town Chamber of Commerce’s transport committee, she worked as a Public Affairs Manager at the Cape Town branch of Metrorail and was spokesperson for the Minister of Public Service and Administration, Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi. A former student leader and activist and a strong advocate for the development of women and the youth, she has also pioneered the formation of the Ekurhuleni Women Enterprise Forum to champion the cause of women in the rail industry. A social science graduate of the University of Cape Town, Kulu also holds an honours degree in Business Administration from Stellenbosch, and is studying towards an MBA at Regent Business School.
