Environmental Hydrology AT Team Goals • What is the EH AT doing? • Application of Grid-based computing to coupled model systems at multiple scales. • Midwest Hydrology domain • Chesapeake Bay domain • Integration of component models into single persistent functional environment. • Integration of resources via Globus • Persistence accomplished through CAVERNSoft • Focus on Accessing the Grid. • Cave5D/Virtual Director and CAVERNSoft • Globus/VisAD Environmental Hydrology Applications Team
Application of Grid-based computing to coupled model systems at multiple scales • Chesapeake Bay Domain • Simulation components for estuarine ecosystem on daily to seasonal time scale • Circulation (FY99) • Biology (FY00) • Atmospheric coupling (FY00) • Collaborative Virtual Environment • Analysis w/remote sites (FY99) • Persistence (FY00) • Simulation Modeling Environment (SME) consists of modular, pluggable components using XML • Linkage w/other models (FY00) ODU, UMd, UWisc Environmental Hydrology Applications Team
Application of Grid-based computing allowing desktop access to remote assets Simulation Configuration The Spatial Modeling Environment (SME) provides an interface for desktop access to remote supercomputing resources via a Java-based configuration manager, shown at left. Scientists are able to remotely build, configure, interactively run, control and visualize complex environmental simulations. One is able to configure simulation inputs and outputs, control simulation dynamics and browse through the objects of a running or paused simulation. A palette of data viewers supports many display formats, from the 2D desktop using VisAD through fully immersive virtual environments using Cave5D/Virtual Director. U. Md.
